just read and searched ebay for this ESC and bluetooth thing.

Im amazed at just what you can adjust and the price of it, the bluetooth thing with ability to adjust it via android phone etc is so impressive

the adjustable boost and ability to make custom throttle curves is mental

the last ESC I owned all you could do was twist a screw to move the neutral point LOL

Im currently putting together my first 1/10th off road buggy setup and this speedo just made it to the top of the shopping list.

do I assume that I can run any brand sensored BL motor, Im looking for a 8.5.

never owned anything brushless before

Yeap any brand motor Tony! I'd recommend a slower motor though, you can make the most of the boost features that way.

Am I right that you popped down to Mendip on Sunday? My car was the lead car in the yellow scheme in my signature. I was only running a 10.5 motor with boosted options on this SkyESC and it was more than fast enough, I actually turned down some of the boost!

yes that was me, I had planned to buy a 13.5 and use that but people told me to just go with an 8.5 and then turn it down so that it was capable of going faster once I was able?

my last buggy ran 10x1 brushed LOL.

Im gradually compiling the list of parts, but cant decide on the buggy, rather an important thing.

thanks for the feedback, but will certainly look at this speedo, I just love the idea of being able to tweak things, will no doubt end in tear many times with lots of "return to default setting"

My 10.5 with boosted was as quick as any of the 7.5's down the straight. Just had the driveability round the very technical infield which was great. I've ran 7.5's for years and that was the first time I've ran a 10.5 boosted and it was great with this ESC!

Offtopic to this thread but the top 2 cars at the club was my Yokomo B-max and Kevs B-max. The Durango DEX210 is equally as good though and of course the upcoming Associated B5M will be a big seller

I've been using a reventon pro with bluetooth for a few months. Well impressed.
It's actually become almost a must have for my next speedo.

I use it for a few days after moving outdoors/indoors/changing motors as I can quickly reprogram the esc for the new track/motor. Then once it's working well, the bluetooth comes out. (As there really not the room in a 410 to leave it in!)

Just got the skyrc 150A speedo, and will be getting the bluetooth module for that as well. Ready for the outdoor season, don't fancy running an 8th scale indoors at our track!

I think you are best setting each profile on the PC, then fine tuning and selecting between them with the program card.

Basically you can set when the timing comes in and ends by RPM. You work out the highest RPM by getting the kv of your motor and times that by the voltage. So my Speed Passion 10.5 is 2800kv off the top of my head, times by 7.4 is 20,720rpm.

With that in mind I set it so 20 degrees of timing comes in at 5000rpm and ends at the highest (20,720rpm) as an ending point. This way it only comes on down the straights. I ended up lowering the amount of timing that came in from 20 degrees to 17 and that was as quick as any 7.5 on the straight but twice as driveable.

That was my starting point anyway! Hope that helps

Having a 1/10 buggy on my desk makes it a little obvious that I'm not concentrating on the day job (Home PC v.old & v.pooh & the USB ports stopped working years ago!)

the bluetooth function with a smartphone looks pretty useable, thats what interested me as I only have my phone or the work PC, and like you I think they might look at me odd with a "toy car" on the desk LOL

Would that be the "Boost" setting or "Turbo"?

Boost mate, no one really touches the turbo setting inless you have the ESC in a touring car. The 'Boost' is great though.

On my HPI - that has the same features - I've been told to not use boost at all and just add turbo to seamlessly add advance at max throttle

Sounds like a weird set-up that Northy! You wouldn't have the turbo come in right at the end of a real cars throttle? With that it means you won't get turbo until your car is fully maxxing out?

I would recommend the boost though, my car was brilliant with the above configuration! Might be worth setting 2 different profiles up and seeing what you think of them back to back?

It's suppose to just add top end by increasing the timing the instant you hit full throttle.

Might have a play, never felt the need to tbh, cars always been quick enough

Not odd at all, it's what most Orion / HobbyWing guys do.

Adding boost gives you more at the low-mid range, exactly where you want it to feel softer and more progressive.

Adding turbo just affects the top end after a small delay, means that you can have mega speed on the straights and a silky smooth throttle response everywhere else.

Also helps over gap jumps with short run ups as you can have the snap throttle to clear them by gearing down a bit and still have plenty of speeeeeeeeeed.

Running boost just heats up the motor and makes the car feel less fluid in my experience, I'd go down a wind before adding any boost to an off-road car.

Boost also gives you a silky smooth bottom end though and just a higher top end. As mines set to come in at 5000rpm, so it's not actually active the whole way round the track until you hit the straight.

With boost I have a 10.5 with 0 timing the whole way round the track, as soon as I get to the straight at 5000rpm I have 17 degrees of timing come in!

I might have to try boost/turbo back to back too
