The process is democratic and those voting consist of the 10 Regional Reps, Drivers Rep, Secretary, Referee, Treasurer and the Timekeeper (15 in total). On the night of the meeting this year, four regional reps and the timekeeper did not attend, so a total of 10 voters were present (the section Chairman does not vote unless there is a tied vote which he would resolve).
The selection process began with a presentation on behalf of each club applying (normally by the appropriate Regional Rep) to ensure the committee have full details of all aspects of the venue such as track surface, track features, location, onsite catering, pitting area, toilets, accessability, hotels and restuarants etc.
Following presentations the End of Season Final venues were voted on as follows:
BRC/Juniors/Veterans (total 10 Votes) Eastrax 4, Talywain 3 and Holbeach 3. Eastrax selected.
F345 Finals (total 10 votes) Coventry 5, Talywain 3 Oswestry 2. Coventry selected.
National Series (total sixty votes) Holbeach 5, Kidderminster 10,Oswestry 8, Stotfold 10, Southport 10, Talywain 7, Eden Park 8, CML Raceway 1, Clanfield 1. Kidderminster, Oswestry, Stotfold, Southport, Talywain and Eden Park selected.
It is difficult to please everyone all the time and as shown above there are bound to be disapointments, however I am sure you will all agree that the selection process was fair and above board (by the way the vote counting takes place in front of the whole committee to gaurd against accusations of manipulation).
In closing I can comfirm that there were no late National applications, Kidderminster awaited buildings work costings so was not mentioned at the AGM (in case it had to withdraw on cost grounds) and the Southport application arrived while the Committee attended the AGM (not late but not mentioned either).
I hope this goes some way to explaining how results come about and gives some assurances that the BRCA Committee are trying to to do the best possible job for all drivers taking part in the National Series and EOS Finals.
Regards
Charlie Fraser
Sec. BRCA 1/10th Off-Road Section.
Thanks for the insight into how this comes about Charlie and for being honest and straight to the point about it.

Not mentioning applications at the AGM seems a little odd. Surely if clubs want a National then they should abide by the same rules as the other clubs and not be on an 'if or maybe' option. I know of a couple of clubs that would have put in for nationals on this basis if it was widely known that this option was available.

Maybe it's time for a change and let the drivers decide where they want to race.
Let the BRCA accept applications for nationals by a certain date. NO exceptions.
Scrutinise for suitability of Venue.
BRCA put forward a list of suitable venues.
Then at the end of the year, the drivers who completed 3 or more rounds of the previous years national championship vote on the tracks for next years meetings. All data to be transparent and visible....

Lee
Fair points, some Regional reps do more that others and the point you make concerning seeking drivers views was recognised at the meeting.
I do rather feel that in the perfect world the Section Committee should be made up of all drivers (currently we have 4 national drivers and 2 others). We do try to co-opt as many as we can at every opportunity but it is simply not popular to give up time to attend AGMs (Sunday is normally a race day) or for midweek evening meetings often a long way from home.

Hence my version of 'Selection process'.
Drivers choose.
Can be done by internet login / post / sms.

The world wide web was not as popular!!!!

With nearly everyone having access now opinions can be easily added for everyone to read and reply/add too ........

This could be where times should change for the voting for National tracks... back in the pre www. times, your regional rep asked most racers what tracks etc.

Now with modern technology we can just get everyone to vote, inc brca no.. as adam said must have attended 3 or more nats.

I attended.

I had to leave work early (4.30), got there just after 7pm, had to eat my tea IN the meeting, left at 11.30, got home at 2am, and had to get up for work the next day.

I might not bother next time, I'll let someone else have a go eh?

Lee, Jimmy told me I had to reply with 'if you care enough, yeah'

I was just trying to point out to everyone reading that it is often a thankless job.

It's a shame other regional reps aren't as dedicated as you G.
For nearly half of the regional reps not to turn up is pretty poor. They know the responsibility of the job when they take it on and not to follow it up is cr*p!

Getting drivers to vote on the Nationals they want takes away some of the role of the regional rep. As regional rep you could put forward the cases for tracks in your region, but then let the racers vote on the tracks for nationals.

Of the four that did not turn up, one was the Scottish rep and one was Northern Ireland (a little to far to travel for an evening meeting). The other two both sent in their apologies for not being able to make it.
