Some photo's of Danny's car from EPR

Jimmy has some stuff also - that will be in the EPR report.
Jonathan does make exceedingly good cakes.

Just to point out that if you run the motor in the opposite direction, you will be running negative timing..............

Nope if he'll run it sensorless.

ah, yes, some motors come 'pre-timed' if they don't have adjustable timing, and those that do, sometimes can only go as low as 0'.

We have used Novak & Losi motors with the Xcelorin S speedo with zero problems. I have only seen Danny's CR2 at RHR and it was very rapid and that had the rotor reversed. And i think all the CR2's that ran at the weekend at EPR also were running reversed rotor as well.

I do wonder if there is something built into software to compensate the timing if the rotor is reversed, as you can adjust timing in the speedo software.

Mine was perfect with the rotation reversed on a Losi speedo and motor.

All I'm saying is if you have timing on the motor you'll have negative timing if you run it in reverse... So you better off running "min" timing on the motor.

I thought though that it was decided a 4 gears gearbox wasn't a good idea because you lose steering... But what's been done now is exactly the same, any reasons for that ? Why not just make a 4 gears gearbox ?

not exactly, 3 gears very much determins that the 'kick' of the motor will be the oposite way to the wheels.

it just depends which end of the motor the shaft sticks out

a normal running motor runs in the same direction as a 180 degree flipped motor running 'backwards'

Yeah that's exactly what I mean... Why run the motor the wrong way round instead of having 4 gears ?

but when the motor is running 'backwards' its installed in the car 'backwards' (180 degree flipped) - so it actually 'kicks' kicks in the same direction.

with a 3 gear gearbox the car would have to actually drive backwards to get the kick of the motor to be the same as a 4 gear

with 3 gears, the spur turns the same way as the wheels, its a physical impossibility to get the kick of the motor the same way as the wheels.

We agree on that...

It's now similar to having a 4 gears gearbox, but with 3 gears and a motor that goes backwards.

But I was told at Oz they didn't wanna do that to get more steering, the car I saw back then had the motor spinning normally, with modified gearbox to get the shaft out the other side.

See post 33 , and you don't need to design a new gearbox to have the 4 gear effect.

So you concluded that you had too much steering with the original design ?

Can't quite make out from the above pics, is it possible to use a full size servo and still fit the excelorin in, or only low profile?

NO, its absolutely nothing like having a 4-gear gearbox.

if you hold the motor it will kick in one direction
if you turn the motor 180 degrees so the shaft is facing the other side - it will kick in the OTHER direction
now make the motor run backwards - it will kick in the ORIGINAL direction

I have a standard servo in.
