Shame really, cos despite all my comments on here, I'd like to race at Blyth. I just don't see it as a genuine "north-east" venue. Hopefully by the time the little one is able to hold a transmitter our club will still be using the track!!

not that I am one who likes to disagree, but as the "theory" only applied, as stated, to those living north of York, it is still applicable and your comment is irrelevent

As the N.E. extends to Blyth and further[ there was once a regional Sheffield]. Us at the lower end of the N E Region have to travel the long distanec in reverse. This weekend we will have a 240 mile round trip for Indoor Regional.

well said. even from Leeds both durham and teeside are a good distance, but people don't moan, they just accept that the north east covers all the way from say Worksop to Newcastle.

I love the journey up north to race there, as I do think it's one of the (if not THE) best region around. So despite distance I will travel to it.
It shouldn't really be about disctance travelled, more about the venue and host club. And i they're good then I will travel.

cheers Lindsay, one more for my Regional history thread in the North East section. I recall going to one event there.

Do you recal the location?

Was it the one on a bit of decent slope with a pot hole that had to be missed up near the top?

Did Sheffield also run an interclub?

The event was behind the back of either a large bakers or Brewery if I remeber rightly.
Not far from Hillsbrough, home of the mighty Blue and White wizards!!

They were demolishing the site behind throughout the day if my memory serves me right.

The one with the pothole was behind the Waverley Arms in Rotherham, another one to add to your history books. I remember it well as it's where I got my F2 for the first time, and the rostrum fell over in high winds. 1992 would be the year of the Rotherham event as for the one near Hillsborough, I'm thinking 1995 or later.

Good point Tel.
Surely it's about people turning up to compete against the best drivers around, and also their mates.
Quite a few people from other regions turn up / have turned up to our region because at one-time we had a tough region. We used to have the highest number of F1 drivers at nationals and regionals were uber-competitive.

Rather than people slating off venues before they race at them / travel to them. Let the comittee decide the venues and then if you don't want to go, don't go.

Default NE regionals

Hi, As far as I was aware The Blythe Track as run North East Regionals before, it's always been a good venue. It's nice to see it back and I wish all concerned good luck. THe North East as far as I remember ran from Worksop in the South to Newcastle in the North, From the Pennines in the West and to the Coast in the East

You are right of course, and this same discussion took place back then, with a vast number of drivers for the mid & northerly end of the region stating that stretching the region to Worksop in the South was too far of a stretch.
And the Worksop drivers also were unhappy to have to travel so far North for most of the rounds.
The point relevant to today is the same - the region is too big for a number who would like to complete a series without having to travel so far. Answer - smaller regions.

But the people that are putting all the hard work in are actually from further north and are travelling down this way most weekends to get the Blyth track up and running. So travelling can't be that bad.

And it's only for one round for the more northern of you. For us down here, we have to travel up there for the rest of the meetings. But we aren't moaning about doing so, as long as we can race against some excellent and friendly people.

As the crow flies, its only about 18 or so miles further than Jarrow is from Co Durham. So surely its not that much of a trek? Also its virtually straight off of the A1, so very easy to get to. Isn't Co durham more suited to the NW?

Erm No! Durham is Definately in N/E..

As for the travelling issue, Myself and a couple of other Jarrow members got together and decided to car share. We've done all rounds of the Worksop indoor series and its cost on average about £12 each per round for fuel. Thats a round trip of 260 miles and we heve to get out of bed at 4.00am and dont get back til after 8.00pm, but we do it because its a great competition with the best drivers and they build good tracks.

So if a club is willing to put a lot of time into a purpose built track for us to do battle on then a few extra miles aint gonna stop me!

Fingers crossed Blyth gets a round in the N/E

well said jeff, distance is not so much of an issue if you car share, the more rounds in the series the better

This is exactly my point. If you enjoy your racing, and enjoy the people that you race with then you will travel a little further.

Thats what I'm doing this year to do the NE regionals.
