We have all become acustomed to being spoilt with onsite mains...

Im currently trying to sort out a 12v, fix up my 12v Iron, and borrow my dads Fiesta. I still want to come and I hope more do too.

It isn't about charging cells, some people need a soldering Iron to change cells, as they solder direct and don't use plugs, so the soldering Iron we have is a fancy 240v unit with control unit and temp control so it can be left on safely all day long... I am one of those, along with Carl Latham and Andy Cottom.

We have 80 racers max, some of which will have 12v.

I'd think its workable but like you say I have no problem going up the M62.

I also wouldn't have a problem driving a gold plated Rolls Royce, If I owned one. I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

Come on Andy... you raced at the winter classic this sunday just gone, and we dont allow mains use...? Whats the real problem here? Scared I might beat you pal? lol

I can see both sides here. I do 1/12 nationals too and 80 racers can use two sockets no problem. But I can see the organisers point of not wanting to trip it out if its not been tested before.

But surely pretty much everyone who does off road should have a 12v anyway for racing outdoors! I'll be there Sunday no problem with my 12v.

Actually most racers I know use or share a generator outdoors these days.

Ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, I can add it to my report that I'll be doing (warning - may contain traces of spoons).

I have approx 12 million 12v batteries, allthough only 999,998 are not being used this weekend.
I find 12v batteries really easy & convenient, no fannying around with generators & fuel and no worries about getting 240v at indoor meetings. £30 buys a new one at the start of each year, then it's gets demoted to use in the Caravan.

Carl, do you not have one in your caravan?

TEE HEE!

They can also be used as door stops, book ends (if you have a strong shelf and matching batteries, I have, there green) and old RS2000 starters

Nah, I got a 12v mate, i was just killing some time at work joining in with the banter

I beleive so, but you'll soon see that the dark side is actually a whole lot brighter than you'd expect! Bring a notepad and pen at weekend, and I'll give you a full run-down of what to do... I beleive it may already be good since it was PR's... but I'll share all the info for you to go over it.

Stu, does that mean you will be bringing 11,000,002 (11 million and 2) 12 volt batteries this weekend? I only really need to borrow one dude!

Where did you get taught maths?

Will contact a few other members about mains and see what the overall verdict is, my opinion is to still not use them as it is a normal club policy. But i'll go for a second opinion as it seems some are not willing to abide by the rule.

I've called around and emailed, 240 will be allowed, but only limited avaliability, so get there early. 12V is still a preference, so if you have access to one then please use it. If you have no option then get in to get a socket, Adaptors can be used but only minimal.

Stu, no need to bring those 11,000,002 12 volts, 2 will do (one for me, I'm a good boy Paul)
