I love that 2nd shot, the reflection just looks awesome. Have you used HDR to balance out the exposure from the refection and the normal shot ?

Cheers mole, that's a canal basin so it's often quite still but almost never that still. Little bit of HDR in there, mainly to get some detail into the bridge areas but also as you say to balance exposure a touch better.

That looks like a female kestrel, well at least that's what I've been informed that it looks like.

This thread got my mind working back to the idea of photography as a second hobby (Jimmy's great photos were the orginal inspiration). I picked up a Canon 1000D as my first "real" camera and have been loving it so far. I haven't had the chance to get much for good RCgraphy, but with the Winter Nats coming up in 4 weeks I might be able to get some cool shots there.

Mole2k- Did you submit a smoke photo to the dpreview challenge? If so I saw it last week and was staggered. The shapes and colour are absolutely amazing. If you don't mind me asking; what did you do to accomplish that shot? I'd like to give it a try myself.

Here are a couple of my shots thus far. Being that it is very cold and dirty in this northern Canadian industrial city there aren't a lot of photo opportunities, but I'm trying what I can. With more practice the results should get better. Photography is pretty complicated

This one was actually taken with my Nikon P5000 point and shoot using my cell phone to do the light painting and is blatent rip off of Jimmy's technique, lol.
