Rebelrc,

don't you ever wonder why you often get into these "heated" conversations" ...? Or why the tone of a conversation often gets a bit sharp, once you pop into in?
strange.
maybe it's you timing LOL

Thumbs up WOW

I LOVE MY MCS............ I can't believe how nice it was to drive. I did strip the two little gears though, both were the old white ones, so I need to order some black ones. But I was being a bit crazy, pushin the corner speed and driftin it round, it was very similar to my 4wd in places. We were outdoors on grass n loose dirt, it was soooooooooo nice.
Thanks fabs.....GR8 car

great to hear this

about the stripped idler-wheels ... that happened to me also a couple off times, until I used Fabs CA-mod on the gear-box
basically to remove a bit of play on one of the the idler-wheel-axles that had occured after some racing-time.
No more gear-troubles afterwards.

Ok guys bad news...

I'm totally out of rear shock towers, and had a new batch made before the Petit, and was supposed to get it before the race.

Unfortunately Royal Snail have delivered the parcel to an unknown individual, definately not the person it was supposed to (awesome service for a special delivery isn't it?) and so we are now putting a claim to them.

The bad thing is that I haven't got a clue when we will get refunded and when I can get more towers... I'm gonna try to see if the manufacturer can send me a new batch on the basis that it's them who will get the refund anyway.

Question g-box question

Just to confirm, is it better to run with two black sp2 idlers or one black and original white one? and if the latter, in what order? Also would it be better to buy new shafts to put them on?
I am runnin a LRP 7.5 on a 23 pinion, whitch was gr8 untill it decided to snow inside d g- box...... munched both idlers at the same time.....

the black idler-wheel is much "friendlier" for the spurshaft. The white ones tend to eat the teeth on the spur-shaft away.

I always ran black idler-wheels ... but have now one black on the spurshaft-side, and one white on the diff-side.
My gear-case-problems have allready eaten away about 5 idler-wheels so far. (running on my last idler-wheels now ) ... but other then that, the car is superstrong.

Question g-box question

Would a softer c lippo help, less punch less stress. Currently runnin 6000mah 45c continuous with a 65c burst, but have a 35c 3600mah I could try?
Also is anyone using the brass bulkhead?

too much stress?
Well in that situation you can loosen the slipper a bit, use a less powerfull motor, or indeed use a less performant lipo.

Over here in Belgium, some of the best 2WD-drivers use only a brushless 9.5 or 10.5

a 7.5 will do also. A 23-pinion sounds ok, but it also depends on the track.

the idlers will take anything you throw at them.

If you are having problems with them there are 2 options:

- layshaft is worn out --> new layshaft required
- idler gear shafts are loose in the gearbox --> superglue trick fixes it no problem

Dear Fabs,
I'm sorry to say this, but I have seen the gearbox of Maarten (rcpower) today (actually I bought his kit and have it here at home) .. and I'm not sure if the "CA-glue-trick" will be sufficient.
Maarten told me that he ran the kit only two battery-packs ... but the wear on the idler-shaft-holes is much important then in my own gearbox (that has been raced, trained with on more then 20 occasions), even to the point were I doubt, as I said, that I can fix it.

For me there is no doubt that the MCS is a very fine car, one of the best ... but I must admit that I'm a bit jalous on the Vega-metal-gearbox LOL
I'm sure this delivery of badly produced gearboxes must not be fun for you.
Do you have any news about another batch?

I just had this idea for fixing Maarten's gearbox: couldn't I drill a hole through the gearbox exactly on the mark were the idler-shafts should sit, .. and then put a 5mm bolt through the gearbox, acting as axle for the idler-wheel inside?

I also just wonder ... maybe Maarten ran the car on a very long stint, thus letting the engine and gearbox become too warm?
I'll ask him.

Didn't Maarten get a new gearbox from nathan? I also gave Bart my white gearbox which I know for a fact is perfectly fine...

I'm not sure why there are so many problems with this batch, all I can say is I'm doing all I can to get better quality gearboxes done asap, but for such small quantities it's very difficult to find someone who will take the job and do a decent price at the same time.

I don't have access to CNC machinery anymore... Otherwise I would have sorted it all out months ago!
