Default JC B44 Shell

A B44.2 JC Finnisher Shell

Painted it to sell - so had a bit of fun 'freestyling' with the blends and the result has come out a real treat. Loads of detail in this thing - take a look at the pictures

Painted in Pearl Blue, Flame Red with an Iridescent Red blend, Yellow, Orange and Silver pin stripes / windows.

Backed with black and sealed, just needs cutting and mounting

It's in the For sale section now - http://www.oople.com/forums/showthre...466#post765466

Cheers Jon

All cut by hand using liquid mask - apart from roof & windows - seems like I'm using liquid mask more and more - which is why I've ordered some more

The B44 shell is apparently a B44.2 shell - JC Finnisher.
I've updated the for sale ad with the JC part no.

Super cool as ever Andy. The consistency in the line widths and sharpness of the points is brilliant ! And great use of colours.

Cheers Ian.

As i'm using liquid mask a bit more - I bought a big spray gun to spray the liquid mask. So far it's a HUGE improvement over brushing it on as it's very consistent and flat. Sprayed a couple of shells up this morning and dried in the sun - you almost can't tell that i've liquid masked them

Should make it a lot easier to keep track of where I have and have not cut

Still using vinyl for the details, so a combination of both as / when i can

My teeny little airbrush compressor can't keep up with a gun so I can't use one, sprayed it on with a large airbrush (0.8) and it went on okay.

What I did find though was it's coming off much easier, almost like it doesn't grip, to the extend it started to lift as I was painting with the air going against it, had shown no sign of this when I unmasked the shell. So for now I'll go back to brushing it on. If you work on a light box ( or in front of monitor with a white page full screen ) you can see your cut lines in the latex.

I find the vinyl so hand because I can design in illustrator, I think using them both together is perfect though, it just takes a bit of planning !

Hi Ian.

Thought you had a Bambi !?

My Bambi is awesome - it can really push out some pressure and with the car paint spray gun from e-bay (£10 ) it's great. Tried a test cut on the mask and it all looks good, I don't think there is any fear of it lifting. When I paint I use quite low pressures anyway.

And - cutting in front of a monitor - that's what I do - great minds and all that

Hey Andy,

I've got a Jun-air compressor, same internals as a Bambi, silent, was ideal while at college using water colour and ink at about 10 maybe 20 psi max, now I'm spraying at 30 - 40 psi to get the paint through, sometimes higher the little 1 ltr reservoir struggles to keep up. It's fine painting as I'm constantly stopping to dry it with the heat gun, spraying latex wasn't so good though.

Hi Ian.

Ah - that rings a bell!

How often do you need to put oil in these things ? The Bambi has an oil level gauge but it's hard to know where it really is as the unit doesn't sit flat and the front legs are longer than the one on the rear. Sit it on the floor and the oil looks low, tip the whole thing forwards and the oil level is fine!

Was wondering if I should / need to top it up - do they use much oil?

Ta.
Andy

Xray XB4 shell painted for Matt Tarbutt.

Matt wanted something in the style of Tom Sykes factory kawasaki 2013 world super bike.

I designed the shell on the Mac - and sent it to Matt before painting.

Original Super Bike design and my design worked up.

And then the final thing.

I freehand airbrushed some fine silver into the roof rails and contours of the shell, to give it a more interesting look - as most of it would otherwise be black - worked a treat.
