Hi folks

Dug the ZX-R out of the loft last week after a 15 year hibernation.

I would like to get this going again and have stumbled across this thread. All my batteries are knackered so might as well start again with all new electrics. At the moment I have a 12 turn brushed in it. Electrics have moved on a fair bit and I haven't a clue which lipo's to buy and which brushless motor to go for. Although I had my eye on a Tekin RS esc.

Any help in getting this going again would be much appreciated.

Rich
Rich,

Welcome to the club. Ok personally the Tekin RS Pro would be a good one to get as its small and easy to place on the chassis. Servo wise a futaba s9551 is a safe fast servo and always reliable. Motor wise i would advise fitting a lower wind like a 9.5 or 10.5 and would advise not going for LRP as its too agressive. Aim for a £60 motor like HPI or if you can find one a losi excorlin 9.5 as they are really simple and reliable and an easy solder, then again Vampire do one as well.

Ive designed a rear top deck mount which has an extra 3mm height which is on a link within the last few pages and by raising the lugs by 3mm means your cells will fit. Its pricey (i asked if they could redesign it) but should help. The front gearbox has been redesigned as well but you can always space the front by 3mm on either side.

Lipo tray ive designed but need to find the correct design. Batteries i use vampire as they are brilliant and an LRP charger but would advise getting one that charges above 5.5 and also balances.

Also worth mentioning if you buy 5500 lipo saddles you charge a 2C at 5.5

And if you do ever decide to sell or part ex for some items you 410k let me know, as i have a long history using those escs and need one for my shelfer when i build it.

Thanks for your advice

Can you tell me where the best place to get the alloy arm brackets from?

Without raising the top deck, what are the largest cells I can fit?

4400 are a really tight fit and youll need demon banana plugs. Alloy pivot blocks are a touchy subject as im not happy with the ones being sold. Im having some machined.

Im doing the maritime winter series this year so you could always pop in and see my car.

This is superb. Ok in a month or two im getting the steering in white, rear top deck mount with the hole sections which have been raised by 3mm so you can fit lipos in easily, the extension gearcover which is for the proto layshaft with associated VTS slipper clutch and may be tempted to get the front gearbox for my back up car when i build it as well with the raised holes. Things are looking really good.

Trying to win an optima mid and chain on ebay. If I win, I will have all parts to replicate.

Awesome! Hopefully things go to plan then. I've made a thread on RC10talk regarding 3D printed Optima parts, maybe you could keep us updated there?

shipment came. Seem strong and bendable to a degree. It is a hard plastic material. Feels like a fibery plastic.

Ok colour suits me big time. Blue for the proto, white for the back up.

Do not order parts that are without polish finish. They are unpleasant.
