Durham to epsom (surrey) and back yesterday the 406 did about 48mpg @ a steady 80.
300 mile each way and still 100 mile left in the tank

I get 48 MPG on long runs out of the Audi, (170BHP 2ltr Diesel). 45MPG round town. Average approx 515miles, out of a £50 tank of fuel.
With the extra BHP, quick and good MPG... Shame you still get the black smoke

Paul you have it so wrong, the black smoke is cool!
Line up your victim after some steady, smooth, efficient driving and then bury the throttle. I have managed to almost obscure the view of the car behind when looking in my rear view mirror. Its a good way to get your own back on bad driving!!!

I shall remember that for the future. I remember when I first got the car, after 5K I had to top up the oil.. And it's been pretty much the same since. I thought something was wrong, but the tech guy's at Audi said that's good, and they have seen a lot worse! My Focus, never even pulled the dipstick out in 90K!!!! P
