From the replies so far it seems a hit & miss situation, that's not usually the case as in previous years have had no problems.
im pretty sure my form had the old membership address on it, and the the membership secertary was suposed to get them forwarded, could be a reason why

Unfair.
They've updated the website and I have to say its pretty good now.
Alot of others seem to be having no problems renewing via the website.

Was really easy for me, login, big red box says RENEW!, click it, paypal, card arrived.
Not sure what else they could be doing to make it easier?!

why do clubs ask you to become BRCA members. The way I see it its some thing to do with insurance but would appreciate why this is done apart from squeezing money out of racers.

mainly so you have a 3rd party insurace should your toy car hurt somone, then the club is not liable, unless its thier failing

also BRCA rules state that if the club is BRCA affiliated all people entering the pits or track boundaries need to be BRCA members, I think that you are allowed 3 meetings before you have to join

Whether or not you get asked is not the point. Membership is required, and "should" anything happen at the track and it turns out you are not a member, you or the club will be directly liable.

Anyway, I've been trying to use the website. I stand by my opinion that it is poorly designed, because I have found two independent ways of generating an account, neither of which seem to let me keep my existing number.

So I have emailed the site admin to get either a login under my current number or some paper forms.

If you pre enter some meetings and arent a BRCA member at the time, they will just bin your entry. They do check. It says so on some entry forms.

All our series and meetings that we host and run all drivers at every meeting will be asked to show there valid BRCA licence also there is spot checks done on pit crew and marshalls for a valid licence through the day/days racing

This is to try and stop people not applying for a licence and letting other people to pay to get there;s just makes it a little fairer across the board for everyone

I now have my membership, once my emails to the site were responded to the process has been quite rapid. Hopefully the renewal will be more straightforward next year.

I got my new card through this morning after renewing on the website and paying by paypal about a week ago. I did notice that my number has changed, for the first time in about 8 years, used to have a great number 757, now my new number is 6-7 digits long.

This was why I had to send an email. This seems to be the flaw in the website registration system, you need the admin to manually modify your account if you want to keep your previous number.
