Before UK retailers have the items to sell, there's a list of people, places and companies it has to pass, with each one taking a small cut of the profit such as the distrbutor from country of product origin, customs with duty and VAT, shipping charges (with more tax added), UK distributor before shops can even think about making small amount for themselves. Oh, and dont also forget on the day exchange rates.

Perhaps with your country and say the far east, these costs incurred between manufacturer and shop may be less, maybe because the exchange rate is better, or just because your country has a lower tax %, or cost of shipping is less as its geographically closer, who knows.

But one thing can be confirmed, UK shops aren't making large profits like you think they are, when did you last see a model shop owner in the UK driving a Ferrari or the likes?

I know that almost if not all hobby shop owners are in it because they like the hobby and not for the money.. And if the difference was only £10-25 on a car kit in my country I would buy it from my local shop also, but this isnt the case. I paid £320 for my Avante back in 1988.
If I were to buy my cars here in Norway I cant afford this hobby.
