Would it not be safer just to say nobody who isn't competing is allowed within the confines of the track to marshall...and then if there are some kids who want to race, then say that they need an adult with them to marshall for them if they are under a certain age... maybe 12/14?
You could definitely cause some damage with a flat out 'rango' to the side of the head or ankle!

Just out of interest, were the kids on Sunday (who have raised these concerns) local kids interested to watch and got a bit carried away, or were their parents/guardians actually racing?
I think a few simple signs around the perimeter fence/gate and also at the bottom of the rostrum stairs would help. I like the idea of a safety officer to confirm appropriate marshalls are in defined marshall locations before the racing starts. Lets encourage the kids as they will be the ones explaining new technology to us old ones soon. ![]()

No kids should be put at risk period. Either keep the kids out or keep the cars slow. |

Hi all,
It was my first time at Bury and can I say thanks to everyone I met to making me feel welcome. Shame about the weather but we will definitely be back! I brought my 6 year old soon with me who is mad keen on getting started with the sport. Since Sunday I had serious words with him about getting in the way and putting himself in danger. In his defense he really wants to help out wherever he can. I go along with the suggestion of adult supervised marshaling only for under 10. Anyone not with an adult, can we keep them all off the track somewhere where they wouldn't be in the way but still have visibility of the racing? Thanks! Jonathan |

I have a 9 year old son and we have raced at Batley a couple of times this year. They run an under 13's heat. When it is there turn to marshall they have to do so with an adult, either a parent or other volunteer racers.

lets just get a stick to beat the kids with if they stray on track unsuprvised.
or to beat the parents with .... if they fail to mashall for there nipper it is a bit wild when the kids marshall . so i say give the responsibillity to the parents not the club . yes to the kids racing, no to them marshalling especially when it affects our racing never mind putting them in danger. no ones died from rc collisions .and we dont run nitro so adults marshall for kids and there alloted heat ( parents sort there own kids out) i no this would make for a hectic and possibly stressfull day but its your choice to bring your kid so it should be your responsibillity after all its a rc club not a nursery

everything that has been said is pretty much common sense. But if you stop the young ones marshalling altogether you will struggle for marshalls when its like it was on sunday not busy. I will tell you why!! I was marshalling heats with Vaughn as well as Dave..Because no one else could be arsed volunteering to marshall when its was not there turn. When its quite you need people to help out with the marshalling espically for the quicker heats and it also go's for setting up and packing away.
