I know it is not a trf but come on for £80 it is amazing! Also may i add that when tamiya introduced the ta05 it was a great success and there ms version of the ta05 is amazing, just as good as the trf415's
I swear that this car is quite competive (for a novice/club racer in 2wd), cheak out the shocks, the layout is exactly the same as the rc10b4, and who knows maybe they used the harder plastic like they used for the db01 (durga) which would reduce a hell of a lot of chassis flex, also rememeber that every thing on tamiya cars are upgradable, so a slipper can be bought as well as aluminium/carbon fibre shock towers. Also i think that there is alot of ajustability as they use turnbuckles and have various holes for the suspension, remember all for 80 quid. ![]() |

I hve owned a DT01, I have four TA05's had a DF03, own a DB01, got a TB02, Evo IV and a 415MSX, as much as the DT01MS looks good, it is all eye candy and you can't get round the fact that the car is just not really raceable. You would be better off spending a little more and buy a B4....
Raceable chassis TA05, DB01, TB02 Not Raceable - all the others lol

I have raced an ansmann are-1, the cheapest, touring car available in the world (brand new = 34.99 quid) and i have won 3 races (including 3 TQ's) out of 4 in the stock 27 turn class (without any hop ups) at my club, all it takes is intelligence and determination and any car can be made "raceable".

I think what DCM means is race competitively rather than just raceable.
All cars are raceable, for example, I could race my Holiday Buggy, I just wouldn't do as well as if I used my B4! |

I also think it depends on the club you race at, i dont think you would be setting TQ's at york or batley with it. I dont even think masami would tq with one of those bad boys

Buts lets not deny that its a good car for us to advise a fresh newby to start out with, or to buy a 10 year old son for thrashing around the street with... without buggies like this, we wouldn't have any grass roots to start at and the sport wouldn't grow.
What this car does, is look great on the shelf in the shop. More chance of tempting newbies with it than a grasshopper ![]() |

for knocking around the street with, I would tell them to save their cash and buy the normal DT02..... It will go just the same, just cost less

ah come on if in the review on this website says that he came second with a durga then this may come thrid in the 2wd drive class, anyway back to the point of this thread, I doubt that companies such as tamiya try and compete with the world dominating rc10b4 or the losi equivalent, come on you would have to be extremely brave company to do so... And for that matter does anyone know of Xray's off road project, so far they have dabbed succesfully in 1/8 does anyone think or know if they will do 1/10 off road???

i am surprised that no one has pointed out that the dt 02 ms has different wheels front and back... i guess this reflects the price and shows that tamiya are not that intrested in 2wd off road

currently they are not interested, but then it was thought they wasn't interested in 4wd buggy and we got the 501X which filtered down to the DB01......
I enjoyed the DT02, it does drive nice, but you can't tune it and the gearbox is a stressed member of the chassis, so you damage the rear suspension, chances are the gearbox too.

Don't you guys reckon at all that the durga and the ta 05 are at all similar i mean clearly the 501x is closer to the durga but come on these two are very similar...
I mean apart from the enclosed drive train and the longer wishbones both cars have the same chassis layout, with the motor in the middle, with a twin belt system and even everything is on the same size, even the battery straps are the same (except in this photo one they are turned in different ways) notice also that both have a small section that protects the motor and that the servo mounts are identical.. the only real diference in the bathtub chassis itself is that the db01 has no cut outs, maybe the plastics are different... anyone have any ideas... ![]() ![]() |

Simple. No slots keeps the water out a bit more. Like a moulded undertray.

erm, the only relevance is the drivetrain, and it works on the same principle of equal belt length. You could use the drive puleys on either cars to, but thats it.
The chassis design is totaly different, suspension mounting is different, steering, length you name it, it is different... Oh, by the way, I have and race both.

Form what Hupo is saying below (credit Redrc), I wouldn't be surprised to see a Tamiya TRF 2wd in future even maybe a proto by the Shoot Out....
Quote (emphasis added): Hupo added, “I will run the X Factory buggy at the Euros and possibly the Hot Rod Hobby Shoot-Out if Tamiya has no buggy at that time.” |
