Yeah, mine is 5 characters - on my previous car (Leon Cupra R) I had the front plate made by gtgrafix to be the minimum legal size (mocked it up on paper first to get the dimensions right, based on DVLA published info) which coincidentally was the perfect size for the mounting space for the plate! It suited the car better with the 'wide mouth frog' front bumper to feed cold air in.....even though the intercoolers are mounted on each side as standard

Have always stuck plates on modern cars - only exception would be e.g. Merc where they tend to bend the plates a lot on the front to match the bumper profile, so you need the multiple bolt locations to keep it in place.

They are reflective, the correct font and the correct spacing. Anything other than GB in the blue bit is illegal.

p.s. Anywhere that advertises as "show plates" means they either don't have ministry of transport approval to make plates or are choosing to make plates outside of the rules.

if you just want standard "legal" plates go to your main local car dealer of the make of your car.
