I was under the imprssion that those used in the Elise were sorted by then - obviously not?

Had a K series failure in wifeys Rover years back and despite getting it skimmed etc it was never a happy bunny after that.

Drove an Elise a month back and have been watching the clasifieds ever since, tell me its not so that the Kseries problems carried through to those on the Elise..

you need to read up on your history. Germany (benz) beat the brits (daimler) by a week inventing the car. But we had the first roads for cars and we drive on the correct side with the wheel on the correct side. Dont forget there are a lot of countries driving on the same side, more than you know.

make sure they change the stretch bolts, or the gaskets will blow again!

K series engine is one of the best engines for power to weight ratio, shame it was cost engineered to death, thats why the gaskets fail.

Lotus went to toyota as they could get rover to make the k series euro IV compliant or meet federal emmision standards. if you were to swap i would try and fit a toyota 4ge engine in which was a copy of the cosworth BDA.
Rev freely and produces good power.

If I remember correctly the Kseries was a Honda Unit built while Rover and Honda were partners. I'm pretty sure all of the rovers from about 86 onwards use honda running gear. I'll have to look it up to check tho.

yeah the K serie was a joint venture between Honda and rover but was used in rovers as honda thought it was too cutting edge for them.

yep, the issues carried through unfortunately. There are things you can do to try and protect the engine as much as possible, don't go above 3000rpm until engine is fully warm. Let the engine cool a bit after a thrash before turning it all. However these are all things I've done religiously yet it has still succomb to the failure.

From 2004 the elise moved to the Toyota engine, celica in the 111R and corrola engine in the 111s.

I've have aa cover which comes with a parts and labour warranty which covers the first £500 of any repair so should cover the majority of expensive failures on the car.

Even though this has happened i'll never get rid of it. Every time I get into it it brings a smile to my face. The only cars i'd swap it for are either a S1 exige or s2 exige scurra. Awesome cars

Bit expensive like!

I like the toyota engine, pretty quiet and girly sounding though unless you're hammering it
Same manufacturer Jimmy but mine didnt have remote resevoirs on them. Looked identical aside from that with the adjusters at the bottom and were about £1600 if i recall correctly. This was in 2004/2005 time. Still the best car i have ever owned for smiles per £.

Exige Scura? is that the matt black one? Someone posted pics of theirs on seloc - wowzer that's a nice looking car.

I found those dampers you're talking about now. Isherwood took me out in his Elise SC back in October and his car had the nitrons on it - felt much stiffer than my car and a bit of a bone shaker on the roads around our house, felt very nice on the a048's on the open road though. He even had racing harnesses in it - what a warrior.

Car has finally been fixed. Wallet is massively lighter but the jobs a good 'en and that's all that matters

anyone with a performance car in the north who is looking for a garage they can trust then give Phoenix Motorsport in accrington a try. They've never let me down and charge reasonable rates

Not sure, you would need to give them a call. They work on all kinds of track biased cars, elise, Porsche, single seaters etc.

When you say 350bhp isn't enough, can I ask enough for what? Do you track it? Have you ever considered track focussed driver training? In terms of benefit you would get a hell of a lot more out of driver training than paying to get more bhp
