They started on it a while back I believe (jimmys photos suggest may 2006) and also, the evo V seems a bit fragile in the drivetrain area. Dunno if they'll go into production, you'll have to ask them yourself

Thanks for the kind words shane. Really enjoyed running the car today as it wasn't planned (blown speedo in the 501X in practice). Had a few minor niggles with the car today with a rear shock coming off. The car is is going to stay on the evo IV platform as we didn't think the V drivetrain was upto the job. Not sure what will happen with the car yet as we only planned on building because we had a few spare evo's lying around. I'm sure if someone would like a conversion kit we could do one but it isn't cheap to the numbers made.

chaps, dug this up for a reason.... in a deal I had for a touring car from the states, a TB Evo3 was included in the deal, as a chassis only, so was wondering what wishbones, hubs and driveshafts people are using, and maybe blag some shock towers!!

I think Mike has most recently been using a 501X front end suspension wise and a Lazer ZX-5 rear end. Bear in mind that when they first started the project the 501 was unreleased, so a lot of the car was developed around Lazer/Tamiya hybrid suspension and custom carbon parts.
The car is a lot more than a shaft drive tourer conversion, wheelbase is longer for one, if you were trying to replicate what they have done all you would keep from an Evo III is the gearboxes and a few bits of hardware. |

I appreciate that, as for one, you have to make room for the slipper unit (which one is it?) and I would be looking at using 501X wishbones if need be, I think I got CVD's here to cope.

No the gearboxes between the cars are totally different. The EVO3 only uses a single bearing to support the pinion gear in the gearbox as the shaft is solid. The EVO4 has 2 on each inputshaft. If you go the the Tamiya website you can download mannuals to see the difference

I am looking now, it is the front gearbox that is the problem, as the Evo4 uses one bearing on the rear and two on the front.... hmmmm

I believe Mike used a custom chassis to lengthen the wheelbase and hence the evo would be able to incorporate the Evo IV 3 piece shaft. This could then use the Kyosho ZX5 slipper shaft. The pictures of the Evo IV RB I hasve show it with ZX5 front and rear arms
