Sorry disagree, especially about the RC2 type decoder! Maybe I'm reading this wrong? And it would be good for Rob to clarify!

http://www.mylaps.com/index.php/uk_e...c4_transponder

But the way I've read this is that if the club has got a RC3 type decoder the new RC4 Transponders will not work until the release of free firmware upgrade in FEBRUARY 2010.

And if you are in the unfortunate position of owning a RC2 type decoder, then this will have to be traded in for a RC3 type decoder (at the cost of Euro400!) which will then be subject to the FEBRUARY 2010 firmware upgrade.

From what I can see (and the website seems to confirm this) the only advantage of buying now is 'As an early adopter you profit from attractive discount prices'.

Check & discuss!

I think you are reading it wrong, site states the following..

'It is hybrid in the sense that it works on all tracks where a MYLAPS RC2 or RC3 Timing System is installed, as well as the new MYLAPS RC4 Timing System, which will be available in February 2010'

Yeah, I think you're reading it wrong too. The bit at the bottom

RC3 decoder owners
The benefits of the RC4 Timing System are available to you if your club upgrades their RC3 decoder to the RC4 standard by means of a firmware update. The firmware update is free of charge and will be available in February 2010.
RC2 decoder owners
If your club currently has an RC2 decoder, your club can get ready for the new RC4 standard by trading in their decoder for a new MYLAPS RC3 decoder for only €400. Subsequently your club can perform a free firmware upgrade to prepare the RC3 decoder for the RC4 standard.
simply means that if your club wants an RC4 decoder (so you can benefit from the voltage readings etc), these are the upgrade paths. They are not required because of this:

Quote:
...is 100% backwards compatible: It also works on all current MYLAPS RC2 and RC3 Timing Systems (previously AMBrc)

Like I said would be good if Rob could give absolute clarification.

That all looks very clear to me. Those statements all make sense, do not contradict and clearly state it will be compatible.

Default Listen very carefully, I will say this only once (I wish!)

The RC4 Transponder (aka Harry) will work on ALL RC Decoders, RC2, RC3 and RC4 NOW.

The RC2 (PT), Clone AND RC4 Transponders will work on RC4 Decoders NOW.

EVERYTHING WORKS WITH EVERYTHING

In February 2010 RC3 Decoders will be able to upgrade the firmware to get all the features of the RC4 standard, double hits, temp and voltage detection. If you have an RC2 Decoder (last sold July 2006) you can upgrade it to an RC3 Decoder for a very low price compared with a new Decoder. I'm working with MYLAPS so that you can do it via me so you won't even have to pay the international UPS shipping.

Years ago I sold a lot of PTs in bulk to Clubs, sounds like you guys are forming a Club, good for you. Alternatively you could suggest that your Clubs do the bulk buying with Club funds and sell you the transponders. Saves on postage and as Clubs have cheque books the saving on retailer credit card charges means the price is cheaper. Win Win. Just a suggestion. Worked fine a few years ago, might work again.

Rob, your website shows the PT's available to buy with discounts of 10 or more and you accept PayPal payments. I presume it's alright for us to do this?

as far as i can tell you can have as many as you want on the same tranponder number but give them all different names if you want, check the web site link above for more info.

so only 200 are available at the moment? if thats the case they wont last long and demand i think will be high...will you be getting anymore quickly or will there be a delay in supply?

i like the idea if trading in your old one, im guessing its to buy back the transponder number so they can be used in these new ones??

Ry@ JE.Spares, when would you require payment for these?

cheers
