Agreed, a run around it is, keep the miles of the 'expensive to mend' car a bit, and have a bit of fun in the process.

Something really cheap would be good, 3rd part insurance only, if I put it in a ditch I just leave it and walk home

HAS to be more than 2 seats - The Mrs says so.

I've still got the yellow beast, but it's no fun in the rain

Northy, you'll need to look at a 2.8i Capri. You'll have fun and you'll fit your racing gear in it as well

Now this is my kinda thread. I've had 2 200sx s13's, not bad, but rear seats might as well not be there. Plus unless you rag the rpm they are gutless. If you get a rice burner thats been tweaked it will blow up. Guaranteed. Look cool though and lot of car for the money.

Old school supra's are ace, but handling leaves a lot to desire. I had a 2nd gen 2.8 celica-supra (and Cougar-rob on here still has one ) which was waaaaaay more fun than the 3.0 non turbo 3rd gen, and the 3.0 turbo 3rd gen (again I had one of each). The 3rd gens are mainly auto in turbo variety (wank) and they were actually designed to be grand sports tourers so handling is awful. The 2.8 celica-supra is much more fun, and there aren't many on the road. Plus all manuals. Added bonus they look like Kitt from knigh rider from the front!

The 2 I would go for are either a rev 2 MR2 sw20 (but its 2 seater), or Vauxhall Carlton GSI. Now don't laugh...... the Carlton may be an ugly beast, but they are cheap, 200bhp, no computer-aided traction control b******s, awesome handling and a right laugh. I had one a few years back, paid ?1500 for it, it never broke, and was one of the most fun cars I've ever owned. 4 doors and plenty of space, and the damn thing goes sideways everywhere. Lotue Carlton looks (if you paint it green) for ford escort money

Or you could always get a E36 328...... saw one go through auction last year for ?800 alot of car for the monies! Nice-ish ones are in the trader for 1500-2000 regularly.

That's my two-penneth.

Another vote for an old school Supra here
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...972&logcode=p#

One of the lads at work has one just like that I think he's looking to sell, needs a new steering rack I think though (job for Jim ) so it'll probably be cheaper than the one above.

Alfa 75 3.0 V6, if you can find one. Getting on a bit now and they are well dated inside, but the engines are great and they handle very well....

There's one on Pistonheads but a Twinspark version, looks nice apart from the buttock wearage on the seat!

An old Beemer 3 series, or go for a rough round the edges Sierra and fix it up/modify it, parts are cheap and easy to come by.

Fiat 126 bis. I once swapped a large doner kebab with cheese and garlic mayo for one, best swap I ever did. We took it to Bovington Cruise in 2002 and entered the burnout competition in it. We had to wedge it against a fence post to get it to do a burnout, but once we did that was it. We actually had 8 pics of us in Fast Car magazine that month.

Engine is in the boot, chain drive. If you were a complete nutter you could chuck a blackbird/busa engine in it, god that would be fun.

No that's the MX-5. The MX-3 is the longer coupe version with a roof. Still a bit gay though.
