punch control is a setting that changes how aggressive the car acts under acceleration, so lets say there was 3 settings, 1 being, smooth acceleration off the line, 2 being, little bit faster of the line, 3 being floor it wheels spinnig and spins out of control of the line....basicly

with the ratios, go with what u got, see wat happens. on the straights u want to be at full throttle with some tracks and the gearing u have atm u wont be able to hit full thortle too fast there for u try a small pion or bigger spur, vise versa. u would stick with the spur u have and get a punch of pions

more teath on the spur slower top end faster acceleration
more teath on the pion faster top end slower acceleration

hope this helps

edit god im slow at typing... guys already covered it oops

spur is 76 for top end and top speed on the traxxas . i think a 83 spur or 86 spur would be better

really depends on track size you goin to run at, stick to one spur, personally the smallest one u have, then change out the pinions, like i said the aim is u want to be able to hit full throttle on the straight, u can have a really fast car but get on a small track u will never be able to hit your top speed, so smaller pinon this will make your top end less but will be faster on the track, it will make it faster out the corners, and u will be able to hit full throttle on the straight and control it nicley

i will be running my mad rat soon with a 4000kv motor, im sticking with the stock 80t spur and will get a punch of pionos for diffrent tracks

spurs are like fine tuning, try them all if u like say if u use the 86t u will have a u will have a wider range of pinons witch is good, with the mad rat i would stick to the stock spur tho, i have no experience with traxxas

what u running lipo ? 2cell ?

whats your aim ? u want both of your cars to be the similar speed ? the madrat feels faster than the traxxes ?

with a bigger spur you car will go slower top end but increase acceleration

i think it because of the spur gear for top end speed 76 spur on the traxxas but bigger spur will give more acceleration and speed with a 23 pinion

yer, and the kv rating on the motor makes a difference in speed to, higer the kv faster (+heat) it goes to an extent

best thing is turn to the track with your both cars bunch of pinons, try them out, the guys there will point u the right direction

There are often other factors, large spurs can be just too big to fit in, they also push the motor away (if you see what I mean) and change the balance, this can be used to adjust setup, for the madrat I would look at B4 setups for your track surface and motor size.

Have you looked at Elvo's pages, http://users.telenet.be/elvo/
