I got a little toy RC car from Tandy for Christmas 1997... started racing in 1998... with a Tamiya Madcap and soon after a Schumacher Bosscat.

My first full National season was 2004 although I did a couple in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

BUT come August, I'll be taking a year's break because I'm moving my ass to Chile for a year... will hopefully see you all again in 2008!

Blimey! I thought I'd been racing ages but wow, some of you lot have been racing for yonks!

I started racing in 1992 at Tansley off road club using a basic Manta Ray, which eventually got heavily hopped up thanks to Mr Jamie Booth and all his team parts! Stupidly I sold it and bought a Yokomo super dogfighter and raced that at worksop for a while.

Then I started racing Formula 1 at Tibshelf and after a good winter series, started doing brca nationals finishing regularly in the top 5. Then F1 vanished and I ended up moving on to Touring Cars.................

...until this year (or is that last lear...oh I'm getting confused) Whan I got chance to review the B4RS and all the memories came flooding back along with the fun feeling.

Unfotunately my driving has suffered from 10 odd years of touring cars, but I'll keep trying.

This answer will not be good concidering my ability at the moment. I started in 1984 when I was 12 with a Mardave Meteor on friday nights at an indoor track in an old mill in Blackburn then got an optima mid and a cat xls. Stopped racing when I was 17 in 1989 and started again in 1996 doing touring cars and a bit off off road with a B3 a firblade and a xx at southport and did a bit of 8th offroad at pendle. Stopped in 2002 (Divorce) and started again in 2004 with a mardave mini now I have a 2wd 4wd and a touring car just for a laugh till the present day and I am enjoying it more than ever.

Back on topic, I badgered my mum and dad to buy me a Holiday Buggy, Xmas 1980.

Pendle Model Car Club was already running 1/12th Stock cars in a church hall in Nelson Lancashire and they allowed me to run my buggy during the breaks.

Then they saw the light and an off road class was formed summer of 1981.

I had one and a half years off around 1991 whilst I experimented with fertilised hops and water, not to mention women and nightclubs!

Really enjoying my racing now and the social side of regionals, nationals and the recent vintage series.

Hey Damo... I was MINUS NINE when you started racing... and 2 when you had your little break.

Does that make you feel old?

Started racing in 1991, competed in Northamptonshire as i didn't even know about regionals etc...
Started 10th Nationals around 97
Was National Truck champion in 97 or 98.
Was pushed out of A main in Belgium 98 by Jukka Steenari.
Was racing with the likes of Lee Martin, Bloomers and Teddy T oh and beating them back then!!!
Dad retired me in 2000, started again 05.
Good thing was back then you had 5-6 clubs in your area, just after i gave up there was 1.
Today you are back up to 4-5,

Started in Jan 1993 with a Tamiya Astute (that car was rubbish!!), then quit about 2 months later. Started again in the November that year with a Bosscat. Later on got the Cat 2000, then the Cat EC conversion kit. December 1995 got the RC10B2 then quit in April 1997.

Started up again June 2006

Watch out, here's another old fart:-
Started racing in 1983 with a Tamiya Holiday Buggy, which was quickly replaced with a Tamiya Wild One. Raced at the Bolton club on the old bowling green behind the pub (Queens Head?). A very young Craig Drescher was almost unbeatable round that track. Around 1985 changed to a Tamiya Hotshot and started racing at the Bury club, then located at Radcliffe FC. Was lucky enough to receive backing from the now disappeared Bury Model Shop, and campaigned a variety of Optima's, Mid Optima's, Cat's and Dogfighter's up to 1989, when I gave up r/c racing to go and race full sized cars.

Came back in 2003 when my eldest son fancied a go. I have raced for the last three years, but have hung up my transmitter for 2007 so as to concentrate on preparing my son's car, and helping Roger & Woody with the running of Bury Metro club.

When I came back in 2003 I could not believe how fast the cars were, when I quit in 1989 we were using 1700 nicd and 27x1 motors (who remembers the classic Demon red dot motors?)

I started in about 1986 with a Hotshot, I raced until early 1990 having a couple of xls cats and an optima mid in that time. I even bought a topcat just before I quit, not a car often seen these days. I raced at Batley and Halifax (yes they did used to run off road too) and occasionally at Aire valley.
I then got back into it again around the same time as Jimmy, mid to late 2002 initially with a touring car, but I think within about 4 weeks I had a buggy again

I started in 92 at 10 Years old, just racing a Tamiya Madcap at a local club indoors....

My Dad was always into motorsport, so quickly got into it and realised there was a LOT more to it and managed to get a 2nd hand Optima Mid which I started racing outdoors, then went on and on from there!

I actually stopped in Feb 2002 before the season started and have only this past few months picked up some radio gear and an old B3 - only raced twice mind...... but it's been fun getting involved again and catching up on everything i've missed!

Still a lot of the same faces as when i packed up so it's been good really, and having kept friendly with LeeM all these years has helped keep me up to speed to some degree......

It is funny, the amount of names that crop up from the old RRCi series of the mid 90's.

I don't remember exactly, but it must have been '88 or '89. But shortly after that I took a 5-year sabbatical to go race R/C speed boats, started again in '95. Do I qualify as an 'Old Fart'?

Started around 1984 with a Tamiya Frog, soon progressed onto one of the first RC10's in 85 did some of the RRC series with that and also had a Tamiya Boomerang to race in the Tamiya Challenge back in the mid eighties. lots of club racing at Worlds end Pub (Northampton) and Ryton(Coventry)
Then had a Cat XL in about 87 but around that time I also got a real motorbike and that was the end of RC cars until the start of last year.

Started in '98 I think with a touring car, did a few nationals in 2001/2002/2003, started 12th circuit in 2003, my first race with one was at the MK national, got my F2 at the next meeting at South Shields. 2004/2005 was spent doing 12th nationals culiminating in going to the Euros in 2005 in Holland. Took a break from racing in Summer 2005 when I ran out of funding and my dad wanted to get into drag racing. Winter 2005 I bought a Losi BK2 and got into off road... did off road over the winter and summer. Bought another 12th scale to do the TRCC national and after a year out I managed to come 16th (my best result), then i'm as I am now - 2wd off road, somewhere rubbish in the regional series!
