Yeah totally agree with that Neil - to get the best from any decent 1080p tv you really want HD input.

Im hard pushed to spot any difference between blu ray and 720p SKY HD input though.

The best way to go is if your getting less than a 37inch then go for an LCD. Larger than a 37 and it has to be a plasma. Ive got a Samsung 42" plasma and its awsome!

One obvious bit of advice is to make sure you mount it on the wall

What he said above.

If your playing a lot of games then go LCD (to avoid burn in the fixed parts of the image), if your likely to be stationary on a certain screen for a while (again, such as a game menu whilst you have dinner or paused porn) then go LCD. Anything else go plasma!

I have a 50" 720p Samsung and it's brilliant. With the inputs I have available (Virgin media is 720p max no matter what they try to tell you!) including my PS3s blu-ray I would not get any benefit from anything more!

When I was looking I narrowed it down to LG and Samsung .... like the Panasonic but could never justify the 15% or so extra price spec-for-spec (might be diferent now).

No problems with the Samsung at all but then again I have never had the speakers in use so can not comment on them.

One piece of advice I would give is don't buy the biggest screen that you can get, buy the biggest that suits the room. My 50" is too big, no question. If I was buying again I would go for 40" / 42".

Oh, almost forgot ... get a decent up-scalling DVD as well or your movies will look rubbish .... (especially dodgy porn). Again I went Samsung but the Panasonic stuff is great too and there seems to be little in it on price unlike the screens.

Hi,
Find a tv and check local/ nearest waitrose or John Lewis. They will price match locally and give free 5 year warranty. I have a viera, 2 years old when it was still grand an a half for a decent 37 inch. They were on par with most but by the time you work out what other 'electrical superstores' charge for a sometimes pony warranty they work out cheap.

Check most recent what hi fi type mags for fairly unbiased shootouts...then pick up a telly when out shopping in waitrose for vennison burgers!!!

Happy christmas
