One of my all-time favourite F1 cars.

LOL! I've been looking at F1s too. That and TT02s, I can't help it, I like plastic fantastic Tamiyas.

Actually, I've just bought myself a Ferrari F430 body for the TL01, proper Tamiya body too. Will match the other sports cars on track. A gift to myself for Christmas I guess.

PS: Yeah, it is 3am and I just finished work.

Tamiya shell? - and you call yourself a member of Team Shambles?

Should have gone for this:

Ferrati Exzo with a prancing seahorse on the badge (look closely)

On a side note, i've treated myself to a new chassis for the Shamcar - I figured superglue wasn't the best fix afterall

lol, I did look at that shell and decided against it in 2 or 3 seconds.

I know they don't last long, but I'd rather have a shell that looks like a real car than some cr*ppy interpretation. I do appreciate the comedy value though

You shouldn't need the offset wheel hexes if you use a Tamiya shell.

I did have an old school Parma Mondeo shell that I used on my old F1 chassis and then threw in the bin - looking back I should have saved it as it would have been perfect for the FF01

Parma makes some nice stuff

Gangstar Custom

Clearly Cadzilla inspired

I actually considered it over the Ferrari, but for performance reasons I went for the lower shell that's not half a mile thick lexan Plus there's no way I could fit a wing on it.

They are really cool - I also had one of their oversized touring car shells on my buggy with foam tyres. Looked wierd but it worked

yeah, I remember those early extra wide touring cars in the 90s

I might eventually get the kustom Cadzilla shell and run it late in the winter season for a laugh They pop up on Ebay fully painted from the USA relatively often... I'd have to get gold wire wheels, something that looks like classic Dayton wheels for that cool lowrider look.

Well, right now I am experimenting with different front and rear tracks as a way of calming down the car a bit (as in front wider than the rear). The stupid caster doesn't help...

By comparison your FF01 seems to have like 5 degrees of caster the proper way! Imagine a 1:1 car that handles like the TL01. Awesome on a twisty mountain road.... A Blue Ridge Parkway special that is perfect on twisty roads but forces you to correct violently down the motorway switching quickly and unintentionally between 3 or 4 lanes.

PS: Apparently the thing to do is to get the TL01LA upgrade, it fixes the issue. But it is quite pricey as it upgrades every single suspension component other than the shocks... Plus it is rare nowadays!

That is some strange caster! Have you tried swapping the c hubs or adding some shims under the rear edge of the pivot block?

Yes, it makes no difference the c hubs are not directional.

This guy came across the same issue: http://www.rccartips.com/rc-car-tamiya-tl01-fast.htm

His solution was to use TA04 steering blocks, it is a way cheaper fix than the TL01LA upgrade. I'll probably need to use some chopped up Traxxas turnbuckles though as it looks like the camber link length will be much longer.

There is also this out of production Tamiya upgrade:

It pops up on Ebay every once in a while at around $80! NO WAY!!!!!

ouch - you could get 3 x FF01s for that

I have got a spare front geometry setup if you want to try it tomorrow.

yeah cool I'll give it a go! The key is that the caster should be on the c hub an not just the suspension mount.

Any thoughts on the TB04? Is it clubman material? With the appropriate slow motor and cool non-TC shell of course. Everyone seems to be going F1, but I'd rather have something that can run road car shells

Clubman for sure. It would also work in the tc class but they're running BRCA rules whereas anything can go in the clubman so long as its not freakishly fast.
Are you temped?

Problem is I am tempted by too many cars, lol!

TT02, TB04 look good

F1 would be cool too, but at the rate that everyone is getting F1s I find myself thinking that the TT02 or TB04 would be cooler just in the sense of being different to everyone else

I've decided on a car already I did look at the XV-01 which is front motored and 4WD too. But after dealing with a car with such overly twitchy steering can you blame me for thinking that perhaps I don't want a front motored car?

Caster solution! Did a bit of investigation and research with some guys at a Tamiya forum. Solution is TG10 caster blocks.

Ordered mine already...
