last year we had a lil snacks table, but I'm quite honestly not sure as it's the race directors wife who did it. But catering food as in hot food wont be avaliable.. so packed lunches are best.

Looking forward to this.. I have been undecided between 2wd/4wd, think I'll do 2wd.

Is there mains sockets available?

Chris ,
paul said to me on MSN that therte were no mains power , and no pit tables , which is a bummer for us as we need to lug 12v batteries and tables down from scotland , 3 of us in one car will be a squeeze

Cheers Ash, but I guess that would soon drain the 12v

We have 240v sockets, but i'm not allowing power supplies as there are only one or two sockets, if everyone tries to charge, iron, discharge and everything else we do from two sockets and alot of 4-ways, it'l soon kill the circuit, and then the computer will go down with it.. can't be having that.

Removed 'other' posts from the thread, after the work i've done for the event I think advertising another meet on the same day is abit of an insult!

Default No 240v, come on.

Hi Paul, sorry mate I'm really looking forward to this but no 240v, no Andy Cottom race. I'm a southport member as such believe we need to compete with other clubs, and as you know another well known club, thats well associated with this very site, is holding another event thats offering 240v and very high level of competition.

We'll have a few sockets, speak to Jim Spencer about the 12th Nationals. Crewe had 96 racers and 2 sockets. The current we draw is nothing at 240v. There is a calculation that can be done but I don't remember the formula fully.

Sorry Paul. Let me know whats happening.

5A @ 7.2V = 7.2/240 * 5 = 0.15A @ 240V

Obviously loads of losses and stuff but you should be able to run loads of chargers off a socket assuming all good connections etc. That said they managed to trip the plugs at Worksop this weekend.

A lot of people use more than just chargers though, soldering irons on full all the time etc will draw as much if not more power.

Thanks for the math, it's appreciated dan.

I'll be honest, people could use the mains, but i've personally not allowed them for the sake if people abuse them and have lots of 4 ways from minimal sockets. We have not tested the halls mains capabilitys to trip them off as the place we will be pitting we only pit in once a year (for the gp).

For the sake of bringing 12v's as most have them for outdoors, the meeting will run flawlessly.

It's shaping to be a good one, the wall of death will be constructed saturday, along with other obsticles that will be used.

So what do you think based on that info Paul. 0.15 @ 240 = 200 chargers off one socket!!! I believe we have 3.

We have 80 racers max, some of which will have 12v.

I'd think its workable but like you say I have no problem going up the M62.

I also wouldn't have a problem driving a gold plated Rolls Royce, If I owned one. I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

Andy, as said, you can go to Batley if you wish, i've no problem - It's your choice to do what you please.

However if you would like to support your club, then feel free to do so. If you knew the rules, we do not actually permit mains at club meetings, how ever some exceptions are made as the people who wish to use them are club members who are generally there week in week out.

I'm not willing to discuss it any further, if you wish to do so you, or any one else can PM, email or even ring me about mains power. But as said, I'd wish for people to not use the mains and bring 12 volt batterys.
