+1 for the VRS. I've got a 10 plate hatchback. Massive boot, 170bhp, 6 speed, And cruises like a dream with a great mpg.

Family car when required - Nutter motor when you feel the need.

I've had two bmw 320d touring E91 model (2005-2011) cars. One from new, one second hand. fantastic cars, ace performance and comfort.
My company one I used to rag it and get 50+mpg all the time. My current one is an auto, so get a bit less, and I treat it better as I own it.

The new sixth generation F31 (2012-on) looks amazing if you can get one on a good business lease or whatever.

DEFENDER, DEFENDER, DEFENDER that is the only truck you will ever need, if you get a 130 you can get 12 people and racing gear in and pit on the roof, absolute winner

Bmw 528 petrol or 530 diesel, I get 32 mpg out of my 528 and that's doing a steady 80 mph everywhere and they don't cost the earth to repair and they don't cost a fortune to buy either, and there's a ton of room in the back

No your right, the only difference is the body! Everything is exactly the same!

Remember your car is only as reliable as the person who ownes it.

Of course the Mazda is in the same group as a Mondeo, im not comparing them like for like, what i'm getting at is the fact that the focus sized group of cars are perhaps too small and going for the mondeo sized group, in my experience. I need to cart around two sets of cars and spares etc for me and my son and the extra space really is handy.

OOhhh sorry fella, can't agree with you there. Same problems have plagued Audi/VW for the last 20 years.

Throttle bodies filling up with gunk on diesels due to boost leaks, electric windows stop working, central locking develops a mind of its own, dropping cylinders on 6 and 8 pot models, poor starting on 4 pot diesels due to dodgy temp sensors etc etc.....

Best VAG vehicles made in the last 10 years are the Caddy and Transporter.

I guess it's down to experience then, golf mk 2s, a3s and polos, never any real issues. All have been 4 cyl petrol though. People will always recommend what they have owned if it's been reliable.

Having had a 5 series, I would definately recommend one. Comfy, quick ,and looks good. When it came to get a new car, I couldnt stretch to a 5 series, bought a 2.0 TDI Passat Estate, and it is a very good car.
