I found that you have to use the High Pin Conversion or dremel the chassis to get enough clearance for the CR wishbones to pivot freely.

I have a packet of the XXX-CR wishbones and a packet of XX-4 WE arms and is it right that the CR wishbones are quite a lot shorter in length to the XX-4 WE arms?

The arm isn't really shorter no, running the outer VLA is a similair length to the old arms. As Ash says inner shock hole on old arms is outer on new give or take. The 2nd outer hole (it's centred in the hub) in the new hubs is ablout the same length as the old outer hole, but with 0 washers it is slightly higher than the old outer camber link hole.
