I'm not shure if this has been posted... but Ansmann is releasing an option t-piece for the car.. the latest production kits should also have better material in the t-piece as well.

So, should be getting the cheap kit in the next coupe of weeks.
Optional extras to buy = ballracers and shocks!
Can anyone recomend a list of spares I should take racing with me?

+Will ladder packs fit ok?

Rear suspension mounts are worth putting on the spares list.If you are going to buy shocks aswell you may as well get the x-pro for £99.

Well the chassis has been designated birthday prezzy from grandpa (my ex-pit man from my TC days) so thats up to him, but i think iw ill be making all the modifications. Depends who he talks to dealer wise (might manage to convince him). He just doesnt want be breaking the RDX so he is more than willing to get me a buggy chassis.

Default New 2WD user

Hi All!

I prefer replying here than posting a new topic.

The fact is I have been after a 2WD for a long time, waiting for a B4 used chassis. Now I´m a 1/8th driver and the 2WD only will be used to "play" some times at the track so it is no necessary to be a high level equipment.

After long time waiting for that B4 I discovered the Mad Rat, perfect price for me since I´m not going to use it a lot and the times I´ll do it, will be on the track of course.

I´m afraid because some people said me that this is a very low quality car, one of the worst and would not fit my driving and my expectatives. I´m a little dissapointed about that...

I saw the X-pro too, but it´s price is simillar to a used B4.

What can you say about that? I've read this post, and the TQ Racing and Academy at the other forums, afterall I dont want to be wrong in my choice.

Thanks mates!

Well Raf I've just built my first Madrat today and I'll give you this short review

The Good...

Parts quality is quite high, well moulded and for the most part very clean cast parts. The main Chassis is excellent and all the suspension arms parts follow suit. Overall all the 'bits' are excellent.

The car as a whole is a bargain at £45, some fiddly bits during construction but that was due to failings in the instructions and not failings with the car.

It runs very well...even with the stock shocks (see below) and the car has a pretty decent spec for being £45. It gets bouncy at times but that's to be expected. I think I could have added a bit more diff grease when I was making mine but that's something I'll address when I get round to doing a service.

The Bad...

First off the instruction are a bit vague at times which caused me to actually damage the T plate (rear suspension mount) as I tried to attach parts I was not supposed to yet, I buckled the plastic but this has been fixed by added two washers (from B&Q m3.5) to the mount points to add support for the screws...a very satisfactory fix but one that could have been avoided.

The T plate and design of the rear end could be better, it's the cars Achilles heal design wise but like I said above can be worked around.

The other thing bad about the MadRat are the shocks...They come pre assembled and mine looked like they were built by a blind chimp suffering from parkinsons disease..okay maybe not that bad but you get the picture They don't perform too bad..just could be made a bit better...

They are pretty standard size though so you can probably upgrade with little issues. I've got a set of the Xpro shocks on Backorder.

Bottom line for £45 it's a fantastic car even with the things I've mentioned above. If you wanna bounce around a garden, park or club track without a huge amount of overhead get one... hell at £45 you buy another one if something breaks I do actually have another full car on backorder just for spares...

The Madrat is a great little run around, it has some issues but I'm hoping these might become fewer over the next year as the car and parts develop.

I see good things a head for these cars...even national competition is not far off I think I'm planning to let mine evolve and to build on the base car I have, see how far I can push this very decent little car.

If it does not mature as well as I hope then I'm only out a hundred or so quid...So far though things are looking pretty good for this budget line.

Thanks a lot Kaylon!!

Great information youve given, now I'm a bit closer to get one, since there are no many b4 to be sold here...

In Spain Ansmann Mad Rat is not very famous and local shops only have 1:8th RTR like Virus and others...
Any preferred shop to make the order?

First thing I would do is to order a bearing set. But Ive seen that T-Plate is also a good thing to be replaced, which is the best solution? Alu Plate? Carbon Plate?

Any information will be useful!

Thanks oOple mates,

Rafa

I have been directed by my club not to get one, mainly due to the availability of spares, yet I have seen 2 online shops that list every spare in the book.
What do people here think about the spares situation?
And does any one know of any Cf or ally hop-ups that may be coming in the near future?

Matt

....5 days till Madrat arrival.

Trackside spares supply will not be as good as a B4 for example but that is only because the B4 is so widely spread. Even if you're on you're own for spares you could get a second kit and not have to worry about spares for a while.

A B4 is also not bad because people know them in and out now so you have plenty of help on hand for setups and troubleshooting but that really shouldn't put you off the rat.

I'f you have it on the way I say run it and take it from there. Don't let yourself be put off before you've had it on the track for at least 2 races.

Fussion hobbies carry a lot of spares ready to go and if they are out can get listed items within two days. They have also informed my directly that they will soon be stocking new alloy and carbon hop-up parts. So I think the future is bright for Ansmann and this line of cars.

Just built my mad rat, good build and feels sturdy, have fitted the bearing set and the thing goes quite well, just needs a propper powersource and some track testing.
