Ok, time to get the manual out. Tempted to change the motors round and get the cooling accessories for the X11
I'd like to try a 7.5 Tekin too, but ££££ (Unless two RS Pros = a free 7.5 )Any tips for the Cat SX with Tekin? |

not run an SX but some cars need slightly different gearing, I know the drivetrain is a little tight so you may have to gear down a little more!

That speedo setup is spot on for 4wd mod buggies with a 7.5 or lower.
The RS's onboard temp idicator is MOST important, we don't care too much about case temps. It will tell you how hot it is on the inside which is what counts. I'd expect 5-6 led's when geared properly. Also you MUST run the silver cap that comes with the RS Speedo. Your shrink over the posts isn't excessive but the guys are right when they say that shorts are rare if not non exsistent. Motor getting hot is either overgeared or undergeared. It could also have a bad rotor which will cuase heat all over.

Ok thanks for the further information. I have asked Losi to clarify what FDR they'd expect for a Losi 7.5 as it isn't listed in their manual. They list the FDR for everything else! Equally I'm half tempted to sell the Losi motor and get a Tekin or another LRP. The Losi motors give me the impression they're not the best by a long way and prone to failures. With my recent RS Pro purchase I wish I'd got the combo pack now. Equally another option is to move the LRP X11 to the Cat. Anyone running Speed Passion motors with their Tekin's? (not too keen on a SP though due to only a 6.5 is my real option and a 7.5 is quick enough.) Cheers, Mike |

I think re-your heat issue we'd need to know what gearing you're on and what type of track you're racing on. Probably for both classes.

Track is an astro turf track and with the dry weather - high grip. The drive train in the Cat SX is the kit standard, i.e. no one way diffs etc. |

you may need to gear down a tooth or two then dude.

Right I reckon you're under geared.
http://www.racing-cars.com/images/Te...sx_page_36.jpg According to this, and given that the standard idles are 23/33, even if you've got an 83T spur (couldn't find what size the spur gear is), you're running 9.32 internal ratio. With 5.5T motors we're running around 9.5, so you see you're running a ratio for a much more powerful and revving motor. For the 2WD, is it a 7.5T as well ? If so that's about right I reckon. |

IMHO you should go UP a couple of teeth AT LEAST on the 4WD.

Looking at the FDR charts from the various manufacturers (LRP/Nosram/Novak) indications are around a FDR of 9.8:1, thus that would mean dropping a pinion

Who follows those charts ?
No one. Gearing is very sensitive to what speedo you're running, what surface etc. Was talking to Kev Lee after the last national, and basically he said in 4WD with a 5.5T run 9.5 everywhere (with the RS-Pro, timing at 80%). So with a 7.5 you need to gear up a lot. |

Randy,
I'm running the RS Pro and Redline 13.5 in 1/10 TC on a indoor track 20x10m (65x33 feet), 10.5 sec lap times. I was running v198 with Boost 30 and Ratio 6.34. Which was OK. I find though that if I take the ratio lower, to say 5.4 I get alot more rip out of the corners still with reasonable straight speed (adjusting boost to 15 to compensate). When I go for max boost and gearing to suit the car feels very soft on power but the laptimes stay the same because I've got a bit more top end I think. I tried a few laps on v200 last weekend setup as you suggested, Gear ratio up (by close as I could get to 14%) to 6.97, Boost at 20 and Turbo at 20. Car still felt very soft on punch, reasonable onto the straight and second gear kicked in just as I got to the sweeper off the straight. I'm trying to get my head around a few things. 1) does more Boost reduce torque on the infield? 2) For my application should I keep the gear ratio lower for infield punch and rely on Turbo to give straight speed? 3) is there any way you can reduce Turbo delay from 0.5sec? That delay kicks in far too late on the indoor tracks where I race! I'd like to try 0.3-0.4 sec. Thanks, Chris. |

Chris, what physical timing are you running on the motor?

if the turbo is only kicking in on the sweeper and you don't feel much punch, i'd be gearing down to say 7.2 and see how that is.
just my opinion though ![]() Ill be try v200 tomorrow night at my local club, infact im loading it now =) |
