No 4wd was different plus ran in the opposite direction.

Thanks to all at Newbury for an awesome weekends racing. Thoroughly enjoyed it and Sundays track was even better than Saturdays

Thanks to pidge & bloomers too for an entertaining evening for the curry

Fortunately that one was spotted on the day, and Tony took home the 2nd place trophy. Website has now been updated.

As far as the B final went, there are lessons to be learned that we will apply next time. With race control being so far away from the drivers, we couldn't hear the beeps clearly enough, and none of us were aware of the gap between the 9th and 10th beeps. We just saw the cars all start at more or less the same time, and were unaware of the confusion of the drivers.

By the time race control were fully aware of the problem the race was already 3mins old and it was too late to stop it. Apologies to those worst affected, particularly Ian Ford and Andy Griffiths and also Tristram Neal who were all very disappointed but behaved like gentlemen.

The problem with the beeps seemed to be a software problem, as the program crashed properly at the end of the race. We will take measures next time, including closing and restarting the software before the finals, and either moving a steward nearer the rostrum or installing an extra speaker at race control.

On a more upbeat note, many thanks to all the people attending, we hope that everyone had a good time. Thanks to all the club members who took time off to build the track on Friday and dismantled it on Sunday, to Grant Fribbens for his wireless to WLRC for timing equipment, to Rob Rasey for all his work setting up the meeting, ditto to Andy Bell for the same and for being the first to arrive and last to leave on all 3 days, and to Tony 'The Voice' Evdoka for his superb commentary and experience. Hope we don't lose him to the BBCs new F1 coverage!

One gripe with today is if you allow 'no tyre restrictions' then be big enough to stand by your own rules especially after I checked and was told 'As it says on the flyer the tyres are open so run whatever you like. Cheers, Grant'
I was helping to organise the meeting but it is the Newbury club that decided that foams were not allowed. I was told it was open tyre and I just past that onto you as it was on the flyer.

Thanks for cheering me up and maybe next time I will not bother taking time off and helping out so you can have no wifi, no drivernet and no timing how is that mush!

Cheers

Grant

I don't get the big problem with this Foam scenario - I saw 3 different guys out on them in Practise (Alec, DC and another Cat SX) and to be honest there's no chance you guys would have been quicker on Foams - The cars looked pretty shocking on them and weren't producing any grip on the carpet.

I don't know if you were using additive or they just weren't warm enough but i don't believe for a second you would have been quicker on those then Minipins

My comments are not in anyway directed to you Grant, if anything you are the good guy who confirmed that it was indeed open so I am great full for your message. It's the decision on the day that could have been taken better but that's how we learn. No hard feelings.

Come on Glypo, we want to see the pics!

hi guys

i want to clarify this foam tyre rule discution

the club decided to have an open tyre rule at the time of organising the meeting i was not aware we could still get hold of foams (now i know you can) also i belive the wheels need heavy modification to be able to use them ie removing the rims where rubber tyres would normally sit (im sure some one will clarify that)

it was just concidered by all the organisers that rubber was the norm not foam with heinsight we should have made it more clear but like i say i cant imagine why anybody would want to use foam tyres being that they dont work without additive. which bring me on to another reason why we decided you guys coulnt run them you could have used additive therefore posibly damaging the floor and cost the club a load of wedge.

i hope thats clear and i do appologise if you were all a bit miffed by our decision (we will be clearer next year)

thanks Andy

Thanks for clarifying Andy.

Yes, you are correct, the rims have to be smoothed to allow the glueing of the foam to the rim.

As for additive, a lot of clubs do not allow additive any more and so we very commonly run foams without additive. There are other way's to tune the foam such as putting small grooves in them (as seen on the pair that DC was using).

Personally I think they are less destructive than rubber and there is a good argument against people truing the foam down so that there is only a slither showing on the rim because I think it really spoils the look of the cars.

That said, it doesn't matter now. We'll know next time.

Nick, you must have saw my car in round one, it wasn't the foams that were shocking on my car it was my driving In the first round of qualifying I was awful but in the two practice runs with the car I drove error free. The first practice was on foams and the car was awesome on the slippy stuff and ok on the small amount of carpet that mattered. The second practice was on pins and the car was slightly better on the rug but absolutely cack on the slippy stuff and so I opted for the foams as they were easily quicker (you still had to drive good). In the end it doesn't matter as I still had a laugh and my quickest run of the day was 2 seconds shy of a 12 lapper ........ on yellow minispikes
