Guys, the new carpet arrived this morning and it is the same colour as the carpet they used at the Petit in Paris. Rather dark blue (like a new pair of Levi 501s back in the 80s :-) so just a heads up, if your car has a dark colour scheme, you might want to be adding some light stickers to it or painting a new shell :-)

Hope to see some of you Thursday morning, the track will look a lot more impressive Saturday morning for the Petit, so I don't want to see any posts on Thursday night saying it's a patchwork, they put grey carpet on blue, the ramps are not that good, the layout won't work etc.. it's just a dry indoor buggy track that you can shake your car down on, not the finished article. Anyone who posts negative comments about the track Thursday night will have to pay £2 to pit!!! :-)

Right, I know this is old ground, but I'm still not clear

I understand the track on thursday and friday is not the track layout for saturday. BUT is this blue new carpet going down before practice or on friday night?

As I am trying to work out weather to come practice or not ( will make the whole thing a lot more costly for me) BUt if the surface is diffrent in practice and new carpet is going down for the meeting I feel practice is less important... I will save money and come sat am

I'm glad you posted this, someone else who doesn't see practice as a massive advantage, different track layout, different ramps etc..

So here's the plan on the carpet, we need it looking as fresh and new as possible for the Petit on Saturday, We do not want it to look used and as you know from experience you guys know how to knacker a carpet track especially a carpet track as you set your cars up low for grip and handling which rips carpet on up ramps, down ramps and walls of death. so new blue carpet is going down, taped together on the underside so no joins, a temporary track layout is going down, then off cuts and the grey Primafelt cord we already have and that has already been run on will be taped on top and hardboard (something you won't see at the petit will also go down on landing areas to protect the new carpet. So patched up multi surface carpet on top of new. Friday we take everything off, remove the patchwork of carpet protecting the new carpet, new layout, ramps will be changed and a new one assembled and when you walk in Saturday morning you will be faced with a new track, on new carpet, with new jumps.

Hope that sums it up :-)

Must admit im more confused now than i was.

I think im right in saying the blue carpet will be going down, so we will be able to drive round on it. But the older grey stuff we have been using will be put on any jumps (up ramp and down ramp) so we dont damage it? That's what I understood from what I've read.

The blue carpet wont be damaged if its just the flat part of the track. We've done that on ten's of tracks over the years.

I hope it is slightly warmer so that the tape sticks all the carpet down and i dont freeze Which I've no doubt the guys at Ardent have got sorted. I look forward to coming this weekend, should be a good laugh.

See you all then

Danny

We are going to try and cover as much of the racing line as possible and areas of potential damage and wear. Main straight, areas off the racing line etc.. may well be the new blue carpet.

Hi Danny, with +11C temps forecast for the weekend the tape will be ok, plus there will only be tape on the carpet for practice where we lay old carpet over the new to protect it, no tape at all for the petit if we can help it. I prefer spray glue for the ramps.

Agree I'm only going Thursday & Friday because i need to get back into the swing of things.
We should just enjoy the fact the clubs open for ppl to run because there isnt anywhere else i know of who would do this tbh.

But i know on the petit website it does say -

Carpet will be the same as that used for the Petitrc to enable people to set cars up BUT it won't be the Petitrc Track layout and ramps.

I think thats what Danny is trying to ask though.

I can understand putting carpet down ontop of the new stuff by jumps and that, its what we do at WBMCC, but its a bit over kill on the corners too. Would get some rubber down on the new carpet

ATTENTION EUROPEANS!!

I'm interested in buying some Euros, straight swap for British Pounds, avoid commission etc. Done at whatever rate is current on the day we exchange. Looking for around 500 Euros in total, so maybe do it with a few people. PM me if you are interested. I need some Euros for a holiday in Feb and this way you and I could benefit. :-)

The answer to that is simple.

This meeting is costing most of the entrants a fair amount to attend and everyone kind of excpects all points raised to be answered quickly and clearly which has certainly not been the case over the last week or so.

In saying that though, it's a weekend away with your mates and toy cars so it will all be fine
