I may have said this stuff before, but here goes again... The East Power, GP, IB etc etc cells are all pushing the boundaries of capacity for SC sized cells. They are designed to burn bright, but not for long. They are also made by Chinese manufacturers, not Japanese ones so their build quality is not as good as Panasonic, Sanyo etc. Cells from Chinese manufacturers are prone to premature mortality (internal shorts, major variations in capacity etc). I work for a Chinese cell manufacturer so have a little experience in this area). If you want a cell that will do hundreds of cycles then you need to go to the lower capacity Sanyo/Panasonic/Saft etc cells (~3000mAh) which are designed for Power Tools.

The matching process offered by myself, Dr V and many others does a couple of good things (1) it ensures the cells have not died early in their transit box and (2) It ensures the cells are matched when the customer first uses them. Any amount of Zapping/Selecting/magic fairy dust is just bull..

It is vital that you look after your cells, Charging at 6A is not a good thing. 4A is OK but I would not go higher. Use a low -dV threshold and only charge cells that are at room temperature. Equalizing does also help but if you get a cell that decides to go internal short circuit then there is little you can do about it.

I personally think the 4000mAh+ capacity thing is a shame. There some really strong, very reliable Japanese cells on the market which offer superior cost/performance, but we don’t use them because we want the ultimate capacity and voltage profile at the expense of life.

Why don’t Sanyo or Panasonic make a 4000mAh+ cell? My opinion is that they are too worried about one going bang.. shareholders don’t like such things. Also, our 'toy/hobby' market is too small for them to be bothered with really... they are too busy courting Makita/Bosch/Nokia/Dell

Rant over...

LOL

Are they stamping their feet and saying, 'I don't care how much capacity you have, I'm lighter than you!'

Paul,

If my last post came across like that I apologise, was purely meant as good banter!

Been moving house over the weekend so I had no connection - apologies for the lack of input from me after throwing the proverbial spanner in the works.........

I didn't intend for this thread to become a flame war against anyone. All I was asking for was Dr V's opinion on how IB's compare to GP's in terms of longevity for those of us on a budget. If money was no object and I could afford to replace cells whenever required no matter how regular that might be then I would probably go the IB4200 route as they do seem to give more outright power.

However, I have children, a house, a car, bills and numerous other things that require full attention from my salary before we get to spending money on racing. As I mentioned at the start of this post I've just moved house which has been expensive enough - I also need new cells to be able to compete on a reasonable level at the South East regional championships this year - hence the tentative toe in the water before committing to buy new cells.

I was also trying to highlight the fact that outright power alone does not win races. I know that as a supplier, you www.tyrc.co.uk are going to plug your business at every given opportunity (who wouldn't?) but just a little more factual information would earn you more credibility in my eyes as the paying customer. All it takes is "IB cells do provide unrivalled power, but possibly at the cost of their overall lifespan".

Those with the £ to spend on the hobby who want "unrivalled power" at all costs can see to choose the IB route. Those of us who have to be a little more careful with our hard earned cash then also have the information to hand to decide which route we wish to take.

There - wasn't too hard was it?

PS - we are talking about comparing IB4200 against GP4300 - not 20 year old NiCad technology. I thought you would give me a little more credit than that.

I know someone who can run old 1900 nicads and still win a club night.

Same here - but the level that Andy Moore races at was being used as the example.

Ok first off.

My Apologies.

I just want people to try these cells, because, I am so happy with them. I know people expect me to say that, but even before I started to sell these, (you can check back in this thread) I wanted people to know these were good. To me longevity is not as important. I have just come off a 2 year span of having Nosram Cells which I felt lacked any real power, and all the packs eventually packed in after 2 years.

Secondly, what would you like me to put mate? I am more than happy for you to give me the wording for a disclaimer e.t.c

Thanks, I think everyone has now cooled off(mostly me ), and this can be a thread again lol

I don't think you need to apologise at all - you have your opinion, and I have mine. That's what makes these forums constructive in the long run. Eventually (hopefully) everyone finds an answer to their problem.

As for a disclaimer - I'd rather throw that open to general opinion!

Normal service continues..........

Check the positve button and the shape of the case @ the positve button end.
Both cells may be different there.

Again Doc you are referring to all these top-flight events where money is no object compared to outright speed .

What are people using at club and regional level where there are more people in the same boat as me?

Its like a 50/50 split, I know plenty of people who use IB's, and some who use Gp's.
