Yup I was disappointed at the standard of driving in the final too but fair play to Caldi for a well run meeting and an enjoyable track

I suppose thats one of the disadvantages of a small driver catchment like we have i think - you had 3 top National drivers then a spread of drivers with abilities from very good to well, errrr me, in the 4wd A final

All i can really remember is that a) the green & red ZX5 that i had to use for the final after my 501x died wasnt as bad as i thought it would be and b) there were a lot of accidents that allowed a driver like me to actually pass people

It was a scrappy A final really, i went from 9th to 4th after the third corner due to aformentioned crashes - and thats where problems for drivers like me start. At that point im suddenly, legitimately, fighting for position, not just propping up the rear like i normally do. I know just about everyone else is faster than me, but suddenly im allowed to hold my line and make people pass me rather than let people pass like i would in qualifing.

Then the top drivers were on me in a few more laps and suddenly im trying to work out who is actually lapping me and who is trying to pass me for position - Craig & Griff were the only people to actually tell me they were lapping that i heard, so i tried to let them pass when i could, which i think i managed to do without holding either of them up ? I also let Belsten pass as i knew he was also in front of me - everyone else i honestly wasnt sure about due to the multiple crashes everywhere that allowed me to pass & re-pass and stay somewhere in the pack... if i did hold anyone up that was lapping me i apologise...

I personally really enjoyed it though, its not often you get to drive with top drivers on a great track

It was a great track, challenging, but the issue that small tracks have, and this ISN'T a slate against Caldicot, is that small tracks with tight lane width and 10 car finals don't mix. It is as simple as that, the track is then way to busy.

As i said dyna, it was only one driver!!! (you know who you are as i told you!) who has been racing for a good time, slams on brakes in the middle of straight, then after you hit him, races you to the next corner to only swerve into you doing the same again, there was another incident with the same person but i was raging and forgot that. Ah well, for one car to hold you up by hitting you, losing you half a lap lead, is poor by any bodies standards.

Nice to see a track like that... there's a few pics at home of me driving my Super Sabre around a track like that, sporting a Puma shellsuit and bouffant hair, with dad's Citroen parked by the side!

Makes me wish I had made the effort to get the B4 ready for racing again...

Very childish ...... and for the record the person you are refering to had me off in qually once and very nearly had me off in the final, so

Driving was generally OK through qually but the final was an F in joke, was a lottery who was going to win once we got into traffic, 3 of us were a freight train till back markers got involved.

If I'd known people were going to start crying I would have stopped and given Griff a free win... It's toy car racing for christ sake!!!

Well I had fun, great days racing even if the final was scrappy.

For me at least, irrelvant of track size or any single persons driving, every 4wd A final that I've taken part in at our regionals this year has been exactly the same...

The first lap is total carnage...followed by a few more scrappy laps while people fight to get back to the position they think they deserve, finally settling out into some slightly more controlled laps before the final lap or two when people start to panic again!

For me, the grid start and final is tricky...it's the 1 and only time in a day when everyone is on the same bit of track together, your days racing culminates in that 5 mins and for the first time your track position counts. With the mixed abilities, varied experience and high intensity, it's no wonder it's contraversial at times!

Amazing how emotional this toy car racing is
