I dye all my springs black.

You can then scratch the dye off the bottom of the spring to expose the paint.

Phil a quick question,

If let’s say your sponsor is Losi and you’re racing Losi cars and using Losi spare parts, are you aloud to remove the paint from none sponsored parts and put them on your cars. As your current sponsor’s don’t have the right part ??

It's not really a question of being allowed, it's more why should I promote someone else's product.

Plus in this instance the spring colours do NOT look cool with the wonderful TelShells paint scheme.

I must admit that this whole think strikes me as a little odd. Surely manufacture sponsored drivers a duty to their sponsor to be totally transparent in what they are doing so that people are attracted to the car not put off by the "secrets"??

If you have to run a spring from another manufactures range to get the car to perform then that manufacture needs to sort things out and match the spring PDQ!

I personally have been put off cars in the past because of apparent secret set-ups and a team that, from the by stander's view, look to be very clandestine....

Just my 2ps worth.

Maybe they are Roger, but even the mighty Kyosho can't magic them up over night!

To be completely honest, I don't really care about the do's/don'ts or rights/wrongs.

The simply question was how it's done. (thanks to those that gave useful answers )

How can it be so difficult for everybody else to simply answer the questions that are asked. .

As for manufacturers not being able to get their cars performing right with all their own products. It almost certain that a fairly large percentage of drivers use shock oil / wheels etc that aren't made by the manufacturer of the car.

Why re-invent the wheel ?? (excuse the pun)

At a guess, it's Losi springs we're on about, as Phil will have loads of these and probably feels the car runs well with them. I'm sure any info will be passed back to the HB development team and advice will be taken on board, all part of R&D!

Anyway... to remove the paint you could probably use a harsh brake cleaner, or has been mentioned, Nitromors. Soak them in this and then pop a blob of coloured paint or nail varnish on the spring afterwards so you can tell what they are.

PS I'm running Losi springs on my RB5 and will be on my ZX5, because I've got them and they fit! Haven't got round to getting any Kyosho springs yet!
