Wonderful stuff Mr. Ed!

What is your friend doing with the gearbox?

Thanks, I love my ultima's; they 've been with me over 15 years in this hobby.
Not sure what Yaji was doing there: it's one of the older projects on his site.
Maybe he just needed a replacement: at that time the hotsgot was not re-re'd yet.

He fixed a couple things on his predator using parts from easier to find brands in Japan also

He's adapting the Manta Ray one way to fit in the Hotshot gearbox. The only one ways that were available were third party items, so hard to come by these days.

Really!!! So it's possible to fit a one-way into a Hotshot!!!???

One-way bearings you can buy in all kinds of shapes and sizes. What else do you need? The pulley itself? Any pics of this?

Btw. There's mentioned about the re-release hotshot that it has reduced bumpsteer (new front hubs)... can't be much om a reduction now can it? It's still A LOT!

To fit one you need the Manta Ray torque splitter set (you need the adapters and hardened steel shaft) and follow the pictures of what he did on the link above to modify the Hotshot gears to fit the one way.

At the time of the Hotshot release there was a one way mounted in the propshaft available from SRM Racing, good luck trying to find one of them.

The rerelease Hotshot has the same amount of bump steer as the original, the new uprights give improved ackerman geometry to give you more steering. To get rid of most of the bump steer you need to Parma Bump Steer Eliminator kit.

-is that all I need?

Aha! So it's the Ackerman... that explains it I just read somones post about that... but I just didn't make sense as the bums steer is at least as bad as it used to be

What does the bump steer eliminator kit do? Raisen the ball stud (a LOT)? Any pics of it?

Default One Way

I have my friends old PB Maxima which has some oneway drive shafts which are length adjustable and fit the hotshot. Gonna whip them off and give them a try ! Should be ready to race soon if a big "Tamiya model shop" who's order I put in 3 weeks ago actually send me something ? I love to support model shops in the UK but is there any wonder why people just buy from Hong Kong !! It's a sad state of affairs when we can get something quicker when its 1000's of miles away as apposed to 70 miles away

It's just a pair of long ball joints to lower the steering linkages at the uprights.

Thx Terry!

It may seem like the Manta Ray one-way kit comes with a 16T gear, but the std. one in the Hotshot is 18T. The 16T has the necessary hex shape inside. He actually uses a file and makes himself a hex shape inside the 18T gear? Agree? Must be kinda hard to get that accurate enough... Could be worth a try of course!

Jamies Astute did finish 7th in the '90 Euros with a car like this one http://www.tamiyaclub.com/article.asp?id=94
Dont forget he also won the euros with it, and boy did it go like stink. That manta ray was a work of art in Jamies hands. I enjoyed the nationals back then.

Yes, it looks like that, I just didn't bother counting the teeth before. You just have to take your time and measure carefully to make sure the hex is as centred as best you can.

I can try to ask Yaji some details on the next occasion. He's working thru most weekends though (poor guy) so I don't see him often.
I got his email too and could ask him to join in on the conversation here, but don't think he likes writing in english that much

Hey SHY, how's the modification going?
I met Yaji, and he said it was easy to do, but we got distracted before he could start to explain

I met him on a practise day and mine was the only vintage buggy at the track that day, but Yaji caught a couple nice pics of it.
I didn't get the original pics, so here 's the link:
http://homepage2.nifty.com/good-rockin~/2008gw.html

A whole different event: vintage meeting at TonTon Land
I hope the admins will excuse me for the links outwards:
My own pics are here:
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5333
And Mr. Tanaka's report on the timetunnel site:
http://www93.sakura.ne.jp/~time-tunnel/08-4-27-1.html
(make sure to click 'next' for the action pics)

And to close the post off: a picture of the almost completed update of my ghost-rider

no need for excuses I hope you'll do better than me at my first yatabe race last month. I finished 3rd with my ghostrider. But there were only 3 racers in the vintage class
That swedish event bettter have a few more people show up

Here's a couple pictures of the ghostrider in its new appearance:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9904645...gs/ghostrider/
with a new longer wheelbase, wider front and rear and improved front geometry. Lots of changes under the hood also and longer bigger volume shocks all around.

Next yatabe race is the first sunday of august... and finnair got a 500 euro promotion for flying to Japan : Nagoya or Osaka. Who wants to join?

It went fairly well as a 1st attempt in Norway (not Sweden, by heavens no!)! 5 cars saturday in 2WD and 5 cars sunday in 4WD. Plus an exhibition with voting and prizes.

Btw. maybe an admin could move this tread to the vintage section?
