We race buggies indoors at our club now and currently run on prima felt gt carpet. Now at the moment we only allow Mini spikes or spikes as it is felt by the committee that Mini-pins would fluff the carpet up by pulling out the fibres from the carpet.
Personally i don't think this is correct with the current breed of primafelt although it might have been true with older types of the carpet. What I am asking are their any clubs who have been running mini-pins on primafelt gt carpet for a long period of time and have they noticed any damage to the carpet? I would like to know as I am trying to pass this with our committee to allow us to run this type of tyre as the minispikes are bald after about two nights of racing. |

More damage will occur to the carpet from loose screws hanging out of chassis, which after jumps can put small tears in the carpet. All primafelt will wear out eventually, and disintegrates through the use of additive. I say use minipins. The carpet will fluff anyway, regardless of what is used.

minipins will be balder quicker!
i ran minipins on primafelt carpet for a while, not sure if it was the GT or not. The tyres were pretty shot after one meeting if you wanted to compete at the top end.

do you run stock or mod/brushless?
we ran unlimited mod. The carpet also gets used for touring car with additives and i think that made the tyres wear quicker

We run them at Newbury indoor where they have this Primafelt stuff but i think they have found it does damage the carpet but i'm not sure how badly - Andy Bell (gingerfixit) on here will confirm as he runs the club etc.

hi guys
at newbury we allow any tyres and mod motors it has with out dought that min pins damage the carpet if a car gets caught on the piping and the driver lights his wheels up it melts the rubber on to the carpet also mini pins tend to lift the tape i guess because they grip so well. the mini pins last 2 meeting if you are very gentle with the car on both meetings. im the chairman of newbury and if it was up to me we wouldnt run mini pins but its up to every body at a club to decide i hope that helps Andy ![]()

Ouch! I'm surprised by this. I hoped they were better than that. I guess for club racing, its less of an issue if they are "past their best" so to speak.
I currently use a 10.5 brushless in my B4, so I can't comment that much. (I've used them for 7 meetings, about 25 runs, and they show little wear). I understand if i was running a proper brushless motor, this would increase wear dramatically. However, Wez's B44 has lasted one one set of tyres, since the Newbury Open back before Christmas. Its running a 10x2 (if I remember correctly), and has ran at the Hereford club every other week (mostly carpet), Ludlow near enough every week (on slippy floor) as well as a few club meetings at Caldicott. I'm sure Cris Oxley or Wezzer will confirm things if they read this. I guess it can be done, for club racing? |

The tyres don't wear anywhere near as fast at Hereford. My new pins are still shiny after one meeting.... The pins are barely worn as well.
I think carpet is slightly different everywhere. Hereford's carpet seems quite grippy compared to others, but the wear rate is lower than other places I have been, such as Coseley (Dudley). |
