What ya like stu, I showed this car in september on this site!
Thats what the top kyosho drivers were using. In september they had prototype front suspension parts but the latest version uses production SP parts - other than that it's the same car from the worlds.

The front suspension has made it into production in the form of the LAW35 upgrade pack and the 077b ZX5-SP kit.
Luckly for all of use the car uses the standard chassis not a BJ4WE-U-Like .... thankfully. The ZX5-SP is a fantastic car, I'm loving mine. I am fast coming to a set-up that seems to work everywhere although I am still changing the car every run to get used to the magnitude of each individual change. In the end though I keep arriving back at the same combination which runs sweet .... almost there

hhhhhhmmmmmm be careful.
The SP is a great car and the vehicle in that picture is the car from the worlds and not a production prototype!!! A few of the team drivers took those cars away from the worlds to work with and as far as I can gather from talking with the US team and a couple of other drivers around the world (bless the net forum) very few of them are still running as most prefer the production SP!!! The major improvement from the original ZX5 is the revised geometry however the BJ4WE stylee weight distribution, although working well on some surfaces, doesn't seem to be the preference for the majority. I was assured that the SP will be the supported car for a while to come, updates will come but the base SP car is a stunner and Kyosho know that from the feedback they are getting!!!! If anybody can find a negative comment about the SP anywhere I'd be supprised. |

Yes looking at the SP there is still alot of things to do on the car to catch up with the rest.

I've not really identified anything on my ZX5-SP which is significantly behind the competition. My experience is that it is strong, handles great straight from the box and can be made better using nother other than the parts that anybody buying on in the UK will have in their package and a set of front springs. Compared to the car I ran previously the ZX5-SP is leagues ahead! |

No, no hostility towards BJ4WEs and their clones but I think that it is good to have a choice. That chassis layout will suit certain people better than others and also certain surfaces better than others.
The ZX5-SP is a different type of car, thus will suit those people / tracks not covered above. All I mean is that we don't need any more cars with a 4 in the name

When the new car arrives later this year I think it will go one of two ways. A complete new car or an upgrade of the current SP, similar to the car ran at the worlds that’s shown in the picture.
I hope and think it will be the latter, they have come a long way with the development of the lazer and can’t see them throwing all that hard work out of the window. I have had chance to run my SP now and must say was very impressed by it, although I broke it in the last two rounds which turned what had the makings of a good day in to a bad one I came away very happy about the cars performance. I have just switched from a D4 and have to say the Lazer felt the better car, producing so much more traction and steering, it felt very positive and balanced to drive. I think the new one will have the new chassis layout and maybe some alloy bits as standard where needed to make the car stronger. Roger having now ran the car I can see why you sing its praises, it’s a great car but in regards of the chassis layout it’s in Kyoshos interest to sell kits and the majority of people sway towards the saddle layout so I think that is the direction they will head. But if it is an evolution of the SP there will be no reason why present owners won’t be able to buy a conversion to upgrade or stay with the current chassis if it suits your driving style more. Must admit the chassis felt good to me!! Stu in regards of the rear end and the hubs I can see your point, under power the rear end had a tendency to dip, indoors on the flat it was fine but it may be a issue outdoors on rutty grass leading to the rear end kicking out, the car in the pictures shown has different hubs so it looks as though its something they are looking at, will give the RB5 hubs a go and maybe that is something other SP owners should try too, anyway to improve what is already a great car can’t be a bad thing. |

RSharpy ..... glad you impressed with the Zx5-SP.
The reason the car feels better than the D4 (and all it's look-e-likes) is the more forward weight distribution ..... that is why going to the BJ4WE style layout would be a mistake for people who like the current cars characteristics. After all there are enough versions of the BJ4WE/D4/B44 layout out there to keep the people who like it happy and to mean that another copy is unlikeyl to bring anything new to the party and thus would probably not jump off the shelves! As for the saddle pack layout you not wrong that it CAN be better than the side saddle layout but it requires a fair bit of thought ..... and almost certainyl won't have the cells in 2 x 3 side by side if they are trying to achieve perfect side to side and fore / aft balance (corner weights) ..... if that is what your looking for ... watch this space
