I'm sorry but I just don't see the need for all this hostility which I encounter on a regular basis whilst driving my Rover 420D diesel at it's most economic speed and manner.
If I'm continually required to change lanes simply to accomadate some selfish hot head who can't allow themselves enough time for their journey my optimum fuel consumption will suffer. Not only this but the constant mirror checking and manouevring required would mean conversations with my wife would be disjointed and my enjoyment of Radio 4 spoilt.
If you were to allow yourselves a little more time for your journey's then you too could have a nice relaxing trip. You wouldn't need to constantly change lane's or destroy the enviroment needlessly burning the extra fuel braking and accelerating all the time.
Instead of arriving at your journey's end feeling stressed and agitated you would arrive as I do, calm and relaxed. And on your return home you'll have a quiet self satisfaction as to how much less fuel you've used than those maniacs that want to pass every car in sight.

I think you are misunderstaning this thread....

I drive along the inside lane doing 70-75mph... when I come to a lorry, rather than just slow down and follow the lorry (like a sheep) I want to keep going at 70-75 so I have to pull into the middle lane to overtake it.. (I do not accelerate or brake heavily ever on the motorway, or to go into the middle lane when overtaking!!)

What annoys me is when you are easily making progress in the inside lane, and are getting to the point of undertaking some fool dribbling along at 60-65mph in the middle lane, who has no-one to their left and should be in the inside lane (even though they "may" come across a lorry 10 miles further down the motorway). You should have pulled in years ago!!! This means that I then have to change 2 lanes (and back again) just to overtake MR Sleepy Head!!

Rant over!

I agree with you there, those should be done for driving without due care and attention, but undertaking is reckless driving. It does my nut in those in the middle lane all the time, but I gone past the phase of life of tail gating and gestures, just accept it and move along isn't it.

Sorry rover fans
I'm sorry I just couldn't resist it!!!
Personally I've got to the stage where I don't even really think about flashing, tailgating, gesticulating, if the offisde lane is free I'll overtake there, if not I'll use which ever is free. Love them or loathe them I think the yanks have got it right in that it's legal to pass in any lane. It just means that you have to check both mirrors before pulling out. I realise this is tricky for most of the 'middle lane morons' who never bothering to change lanes don't look in any of them!
And no I haven't really got a Rover thank god, might have to consider one of those oil burners in future though as diesels seem to be getting better these days.

Middle lane hoggers? I dream of coming up the side of them on my bike(either side, it may not matter), Hoisting the front in the air and kicking off their wing mirror with my Sidi clad foot and giving them the bird at the same time....

...least I would do if I could wheely for toffee.
