Default slipping avante 2001 centre diff

Hi just cleaned up and rebuilt my avante 2001 and the centre diff keeps slipping, with a 25 year old brushed motor. I've tried tightening it up and rebuilding but still slipping.
I was hoping to upgrade to brushless but it cannot even handle the old motor and a 25 yr old nicd.
any advice on replacement parts/ alternative gearing to be able to put in a brushless set up, or even just get it going as it is?
cheers
matt

I assume you have checked the disc spring washers are correctly orientated (5 of them, alternating in orientation as per manual) ?

Other things -

check the diff balls are 3mm ones and not flat spotted (roll them around dry on a flat surface like a glass table top )
check the condition of the diff plates (17mm washers as described in the manual !) - give them a once over with 800grit wet n dry to rough them up a bit, or flip them over if they are grooved
have you got the 2mm spring washer on the centre 8mm hex screw ?

I don't think the spares bag for the centre diff is too expensive - part 9405432 - and has all the parts

The same thing was happening to me previously but on the 2011 rerelease and it was annoying the heck out of me but I fixed the problem on my end.

Make sure you put a dab of thread lock on PE1 (page 8). The gear housing needs to latch completely in place in a way that you shouldn't see a seam in between the top and bottom housing when sandwiched and screwed together. The "lip" of the top gear housing should overlap the gearbox plate and not just sit on top.

****Update****Oops, sorry. I just realized that the Q was on the 2001 and not the 1988 model so my comment may not apply as I am not sure if the 2001 mirrors the same gear housing.
