What orings are you guys using in the tamiya gear diffs ? I built mine as per instructions with the std black orings and they seem to be weeping quite badly
Thanks ! |

I know its a dirty word, but you want to use Kyosho O-Rings.
I did a guide here. I have done this in my 501x (5.5t) and 417 (17.5) and they are smooth and leak free.. http://www.thercracer.com/2013/07/ho...gear-diff.html

Still need to get some Kyosho ones as well.
Esp. the rear diff likes to eject 90% of the oil within a few packs.

This info is greatly appreciated. Just got a 417, also rebuilding 501X (big pulleys) with gear diffs on the way..
Big thanks Edit: where do I find the TDX AC16003 smart shim?? Any help would be great. Also, if I use the Tamiya shims how many per side with steel bevels?

Just noticed this on Kentech blog.
42259 Gear Diff 5mm O-ring (red, 8pcs.) - Inner diameter is slightly smaller than the (black) P5 size you are using in the current Giyadefu, will give the effect of suppressing the leakage. - To take tension by tightening strong minutes, O-rings, frequent replacement becomes necessary. - O rings x 8 sets link

As said by qatmix I just shimmed mine to make the seal a bit tighter when I ran a DB-01 with gear diffs. Didn't have any seepage then and it's still going strong with a friend who bashes with it and does no maintenance and there's still oil in them now!
I guess it does add a bit of extra drag to the action but that's the only downside I can see.

Also, got two gear diffs for my old 501X and I have a question. What weight oil should I use in front and back (race on clay/dirt)? My thought is the weight should be the same for Front/Rear (I think?). Got AE 1000, 3000, and 7000 in hand. Thanks again qatmix ![]()
