Agreed. Mine was mounted in the shell as it has been all year, shown in pic below: -
http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/south.../NO5E1581.html

This does effectively place the transponder just above the top deck as previously recommended but it didn't count properly all qualifying. I moved it to the wing for the final and it counted but that is inconclusive as a different number transponder was used.
The wing isn't a good solution as it will get battered up there so where is the best place to put it for next time?

I would also suggest looking at the loop gap and the speed the cars were crossing it. On Sunday the cars were coming off a high grip corner and accelerating for the approach to a jump so were crossing the loop at quite a speed. This might also explain why it was only 4wd cars as they were able to carry more speed on the corner prior to the loop??
It might be worth putting the loop on an a tight apex next time to reduce the speed the cars cross it or increase the spacing. (or both??)

Really looking forward to the round now!!

Rob, thanks for the post, all info greatfully recieved!

John, the loop was close to the final corner and IIRC you were going from next to no throttle to lots .... I think I know what your going to suggest.

Can't see speed being the problem, we do higher speeds at CML over the loop!

Is the loop spaced wider apart there?
Speed will be a contributor. The longer the transponder is within range of the loop, the more chance of the loop picking up it's signal.

guys

i think the main problems were these the loop gap was at the minimum set at 300mm and as has been said cars were on full power at the loop.

also we had the slack or spare wire coiled tightly in the corner which i dont think was helping.

i think that we should have the problems sloved ready for the next one.

thanks for everybodys input though i do love how we all become experts when things go wrong this is a good thing though LOL

see you all soon entry form now on line link below

Just checked the dates against my more 'local' event for my region, and the January meeting clashes...(I think I will have to go to the more local one this time, since it is half the distance there and back of going to Newbury).

I may come down again in february, but will have to see... regarding funds..

Mark

Think the transponder thing will be cleared up for next time, it does seem strange that they worked when moved location on cars, and it was only 4wd's that had a problem so all seems to point to location of mounting PT's to me?

Either way i'm sure we'll sort it, RobR has been speaking to Mr BBK himself so i'm confident they know what they're doing

Let's just look forward to the racing!

Sounds like it could have been a combination of things adding up, although I ran 4wd with pt and never had a problem...

Cheers

yeah I think F grades run form 1st Jan based on your previous year.

Cosie you in theory are an F5 but your ability will be nearer an F2/F3 depending on how you get on with a 10th.

Glaaaaaaad to hear it!!! No attempting to get your car stuck in the roof netting though ok?

I think i'm technically still an F3 for next year actually as i only did 2 regionals even though I won the F2's
