Still - as I said no rush - lots of stuff at HobbyKing is out of stock anyway.

Flying - went to the park again armed with the patented 'Neal Lewis Orientation System' - I can now fly figures of 8 Park is pretty open and big - but no way I can get on full throttle unless I only go straight up. That Warthox guy must be a robot.
Awesome.
Google "orvillecopter"...

That HK dead cat frame isn't compatible with the F450 arms.
I do like the TBS discovery integrated wiring and layout though too.

I need to go flying again. maybe later after I've done some work.

Neal

Is the TBS frame ok with the F450 arms?
I thought the arms / frame I've bought is the same as the DJI.
How is the dead cat frame different?

Windy today in Leeds

Yes, TBS is designed for DJI F450 arms. Your Q450 frame is a clone of the F450, I suspect from the same Chinese moulds/factory.

The HK deadcat frame is based on the SK450 arms:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...2pcs_bag_.html

SK450 attachment:

The attachment to the frame has holes in different places to the F450/Q450 arms:

Flew in the park this evening. Really starting to get to grips with it.

Only 11mins on a battery this time - obviously I'm giving it more throttle.

Not sure if lighter- lower capacity lipos would be better than heavier high capacity ones?

If you like them, check this out! This is quite old too and what they 'let' you see. Imagine what they can do that they dont let us see

I'm off to this end of July: https://ohm2013.org/site/program/
I first saw and played with quads at the last event 4 years ago.
This time, quite a few talks on quads and drones, and i expect to meet and talk to a few of the quad hackers also. Hopefully will gain some better insight to FPV flying.

That TED talk is like a magic show!

Assuming you put on the same firmware as me, then you already have one - leave it armed and it will beep every second (for 30 seconds) and then disarm. You can then re-arm it and it'll beep again.

The KK2 is a dying board. I think I mentioned earlier that the giro's haven't been made since Aug 2012 and no suitable replacement has been found. Hobbyking always show out of stock, but they actually aren't. If you need one, order it from the international warehouse and they'll take a week do realise they have some and then send it on - I placed order no9 a week ago and it was dispatched today.

test flew in the garden briefly today and all was well. In fact, all was better than well, all was great! As you (Neal) saw it was pretty good anyway, but with correctly balanced props it was nothing short of awesome! 90% of "WOD" (wobble of death) on vertical descent was gone, and much more stable whilst yawing with no right stick input. Think I'll be buying one of those balancers, even though my shilly balance method was fairly accurate.

Nice one Col. Balancer was of course from hobbyking, about $15 from memory.
mine is now rebuilt, but not flown as yet. I've set the gain adjustments to the knobs on my transmitter, so hopefully I can tune it to be a bit more lively in GPS mode. I was just running the stock dji recommend gains, which are safe. I want to leave full manual mode alone for now after sat.

Do you run any exponential on your sticks?

Mine is now broke - just one arm.

Tree 1 - Quad 0

Flew at a big tree - too fast and panicked as I didn't want it to get stuck in the tree, so I let the throttle go. Quad went into the tree - then down. One broken arm

When you guys balance the props - do you put tape on top or below? I've tried so many mounts for the keychain camera and the jello won't go away

My 1 balanced set have the tape underneath, but next time I think I'll try removing from the heavy side rather than adding to the light side

All settings on my 9x are stock, with stick scaling at 40 on the kk2 (I believe this means 40% of maximum transmitted signal is transferred into movement)

Just a quick update from me as iv not given up yet. A slight side track off funds saw me buying a new leather interior for my car as well as a new backup slr (nikon d300). I had to get something tbough and so ordered a v911 chopper and the v959 quad with camera.

A quick update and my v911 is dead allready after less than an hour. Motor issues and not enough rpm to get airborne and servo glitching . Hopefully bang good will be good to assist.

As for the v959 iv only had it hovering in the living room but already its ace. I can see this getting used a lot as its very stable and gives you an idea on how to fly.

The camera quality is good although for some reason big files dont playback on the pc. Im goi g to try a different memory card to see if this helps. Ill put some vids up when I get chance.

Ps has anyone got experience on returning or replacement s from bang good?

Interested to see the results frm the v959 camera on youtube...

I'd not bother trying to return it, find out what part has failed on the v911 and order the replacement. will be cheaper than posting it back to china. in fact you can buy a whole bind-and-fly version without the TX for not much money, whole new chopper, and work out which parts you need to get the first one working.

To be honest it seems really good in good light. However iv noticed after 2 minutes the video becomes choppy and laggy and skips frames. I thought id filmed a really good crash whereby the quad ended up high in next doors tree stuck with birds pecking it. Finally retrieved it and it wasn't viewable after 2 mins. I believe a faster write speed on a memory card is what i need as it actually comes with a cheapo 2 gb card. What I will say is that im very impressed with it. Its been quite windy over here so iv not had chance to run it in a park etc. But on small runs indoors and low heights in the garden its been very stable. The only thing im struggling with is getting used to spinning it around as I lose altitude and make mistakes then. Its just me getting used to the controller and actually getting some proper air time that I need.

On a side note bang good are not that good over email so iv bitten the bullet and just ordered a new v911.1 . I went for this model as it comes with an upgraded radio that looks more professional and meaty ha ha. Spare motor cost me a whopping £2 so ill fix that when I probably break the new v911 ha ha.

I'll post vids on youtube when I can watch this space.

Col.

Finally plumped up the courage to 'flip' my 330

Turned stick scaling up to 95 (I normally fly on around 40) and it 'almost' flipped, it almost went sideways into the earth too, so I went to 125 and it made the full rotation

Very hard to fly though with stick scaling high, even with expo set low on the tranny.

Well - i've got it out of my system now, over rated if you ask me. Also - no breakages - phew.

Andy, did you get it on video?

I'm hoping my TBS discovery frame turns up tomorrow...
