Hi All,
I've got a DualSky 550-MJ speedo which is beginning to run hot. I originally had the timing on 1 (the lowest setting) and it was warm, but since upping the timing to 5 (mid way) it is starting to get a lot hotter than before, almost scalding to the touch. ![]() I used to run a Speed Passion motor, on the same speedo, but now I run a DualSky one of these too and it has been noticably warmer with the DualSky set-up (both 8.5 so no change there). I'm thinking I will need to change the gearing, but I can't remember which way I need to go, is it a smaller or larger pinion that I need if the speedo is getting hot? Your help is, as always, appreciated ![]() |

If you've increased the timing, try lowering a tooth or 2. Both under and overgearing can make it run hot!

How hot?
Too hot to touch is still way below the limit for most ESCs. I noticed on one of mine that the thermal protection cuts in at 95 degrees C. That's hot enough to take skin off. The 75-80 I see when running normally is also too hot to touch. Get a non-contact (IR) temp gauge and find out how hot it really is. I bet someone at your club walks around with one in their pocket (at our club, that's me ![]() |

I run this speedo with a 7.5, and it sometimes gets very hot. I run a 24 pinion, but the temperature is mostly cool. You have to remember that it has a 6.5/7.5 limit (the box says 7.5 but dualsky say 6.5 so I just stay on the safe side)

It used to always run very cool, but in the last couple of weeks I've made significant steps forward in pace at my local club, through some set-up changes and practice and the ESC has shot up in temperature after the runs. I was just concerned about long term damage as the motor isn't running as noticibly hotter. Thanks for all the advice so far all ![]() |

I had the same thing, when I started driving the car it would only get up to 45-50 deg. (Motor and ESC)
With pretty much the same everything, I now get 80 (motor) and 60 ish (ESC) just by crashing less and driving more (and harder) Well, I did until I upgraded everything last autumn! |

Upping timing will increase its heat., and your near its motor limit.
