This is probably old news. If so please point me to an existing thread and I'll pick it from there!
![]() At the petitrc I saw an Evo Motor 3.5 (or 3.0 can't remember) brushless in an S4, with only 5 cells ![]() |

Could be a good idea in low traction..but with the release of the new light Novak motors im not too sure....
would make it smoother on power delivery, and slightly lighter, but i dont really know anything aout 1/10th offroad weight limits and car weights.

some people love it... its been around since worlds in Italy in 2005. and proberbly before that in other low grip races.
I don't like it, and I can't even do it, I run 7.2v servos! ![]() |

![]() ![]() Glad you mentioned the servos - I hadn't thought of that. At the petit RC the weight limit was 3.5lbs. The S4 with 6 cells is (give or take) 3lbs 14oz. 1 Cell (with dean bar ![]() I was wondering more about the feel of the driving of it and potential, if there is any, of overheating etc. Last edited by Benh; 11-12-2007 at 05:26 PM. You can still run a sixth cell in the car it doesn`t have to be doing anything.
Rumour has it Mr Lowe ran 7 cells in his truck at the clash ![]() ![]() |

I do it too in my TRF501X, for different reasons:
- it is cheaper - it is less heavy than 6-cell racing (70gr) - the power is the same with a faster motor (I use a 4,5 LRP) - in the 501X, you can balance the car 100% right with 5 cells - a bit easier for your ESC It works well for me actually. |

Hi all,
I may end up with some 5cell acks for a bit, with a 5.5 motor in my 501x will I be able to get anything decent out of it speed wise? |

but theres more current draw with 5 cells as opposed to 6 cells, thats why all the flight boys use more cells and a less powerful motor as they run cooler isnt it?

I run 5 cells in my XXXCR with the 5.5 motor, and its still quick just loses alittle punch, less agresive

Using a 7.5s on 22/81 the X6 had just enough go but struggled a little over the small triple we have. Had to go back to 6 cell for this motor. 2 or 3 locals are running 5 cell & 4.5/5.5 in 2 & 4wd and they say the feel is so much better on the track. They do carry the 6th cell in 2wd but just for chassis balance.

I run 5 cells with a 5.5 LRP Brushless indoors and really like the feel of the car plus it gives me more options of where to put the weight in the car.
Most people here reckon it's easier to drive brushless smoother with the one cell less and have no speed problems down the straight against other guys running 6 cells. Going to be running an old BJ4 outdoors and the balance is really good with 5 cells too. I really like buying 5 packs and making 6 out of them too ![]() |
