Hi people, I had a Hobbywing EZrun 150a esc in my MGT, and it started to play up. The symptoms were loss of use of other channel, eg: while using throttle, could not use steering, and vice versa. Does this sound normal? and could it have been the beginning of the end for my esc?
I ask half knowingly as shortly after this occurance, my truck made an odd noise, like a component going bang, then some smoke, then an almighty "plhuuuuughhhhh" and the 6s in the back went up, billowed smoke down the street and melted my bodyshell, cell tray, cell monitor, straps, side guards etc. I'm just trying to determine whether it was the esc or the well cared for, hardly used, tip top nick, perfectly balanced lipo that was to blame. As I'm now in the market for an 8th esc (be my 4th) and wondering whether to go for the same again. Has anyone experienced their 8th HW esc going up? ![]()

I have no experience of the HW speedo, but I have had the one channel or other symptom before.
I have an old brushed esc that was pre-lipo. So I have no low bat cutoff on the speedo. I try to be careful and ensure I stop the moment I feel the speed drop off. What I have noticed is that as the speed drops off, I can either steer, or accelerate but not both at the same time. I have put this down to the lipo running flat and is a useful guide as to when this occurs, my charger tells me I'm putting about 400mAH less than max in on the next charge. How that helps you I'm not sure, perhaps your speedo low volt cutoff had failed. |

Thanks for you reply chief, however, I have conflicting evidence. I'm quite dubious of lvcs on speedos, so I also run a cell monitor with a hideous bleeper on (they simply plug in the balance lead) they go off when the cells reach minimum voltage, and they show what each cell is doing voltage wise too.
I was using one these, each cell was holding 0.02v tolerance and when the incident occured, voltage was at 4.15v +- per cell. So definitely not flat ![]()
