Sorry but I've got a newbie question, I've just bought a Losi22 and a speed passion V3 7.5T motor. I believe I need a 22T pinion, is this correct and are all pinions the correct thickness and have the same fitting to go on the motor? Sorry about the daft question, has anyone got a part number of a reasonably priced pinion that is suitable for this setup.
Cheers |

Quote:
48p refers to the "pitch" of the gears being used on these cars, and used on most 1/10th scale cars today. |

48dp in laymans terms is the size and shape of the teeth on the gears, it is what the r/c 1/10th offroad manufacturers have settled on as being the right sized teeth for the class.
'dp' stands for diametrical pitch and is quite complicated when you look it up... all you need to know really is 48dp pinions are what you need for a 1/10th buggy. we change pinion size depending on motor size, track size, how complicated or fast the track is, grip levels, boost or timing advance levels on speedo and also to motor/speedo temperatures... weight of car can be a factor too as some of us use extra weight in the cars for handling changes. for a 7.5 motor in a TLR 22 a 22t or 23t pinion should be fineon the standard sized spur gear, if say the track had a big straight and open fast corners then a bigger pinion will be more suitable, on a smaller track with tighter slower corners then a smaller pinion will be better. The best thing to do is ask other 22 users at your local tracks what gearing they are running. personally i use Robinson Racing or RW pinion gears, TLR have also brought a range out... it mainly depends what your local shop sells, but i would avoid Schumacher pinions as they don't last very long and break up quickly leaving the spur gear damaged in my experience, could be due to the kevlar content in TLR spur gears |
