Very very good Andy, you should be rightly chuffed with those. Look like they've come out of a factory.
Solvent shouldn't build as much as water based, you can always run a scalpel along the edge if you're super careful and neat with it before removing the mask. I know what you mean though with the not quite perfect thing. However, for what any of us are charging I think they're really good and as near perfect as you're gonna get for that money ![]() Looking forward to seeing your next ones, your work keeps getting better and better ! |

Those are beautiful, Andy. I don't know what you charged but I bet it didn't cover the hours and expertise that went into designing and painting those shells. A real labour of love. As an artist you must be very happy with your work. The panthers are cool too. Could you sell the mask/decal templates to Schumacher? I'm looking forward to my Lazer shell.

Finally managed to get into the garage and had a quick practice to get back into it - on my own shell for an Xray XB4. Was a bit nervous about it to be honest, as I have not sprayed anything for ages. With lots of hair dryer action, and keeping the paints in the house so they could defrost I managed it.
All paint and no stickers as usual. Hopefully should get the couple I have waiting for people done now as it's warmed up a bit outside ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Green isn't usually my favourite colour but for that I would make an exception, it looks awesome, loving the fades. Stunning job !

Ok - it was getting silly not being able to paint, and a devoted few have waited patiently...
So - thanks to RCS I am fully kitted out with gun & water based paints. Have to say - water based are tricky - but I think they are in the end much better than the rattle can paint I was using. To think of how i've struggled before with solvent stuff.. Anyway. 1st finished for today - Bob's V3. The iridescent green is bloody lovely... ![]() ![]() |

So, after designing & masking on thursday, painting on friday aft/evening and all day saturday - with water based paints - INSIDE the house
![]() Painting inside is so much easier than in the freezing garage! ![]() |

You got a production line going now Andy, how do you get on with the water base over the masks? Or no diffrent from your solvent ?

I find the 1st few coats of paint with the water based need to be very light as the paint does not sit on the shell well if you put a lot down - kind of bubbles and the air from the gun blows it around ! So - I've had to go much lower on pressure and build up gradually. Water based is much better though - cant believe how I struggled before using paint from rattle cans !!! |

That's REALLY impressive Andy for many reasons, firstly you've got them all together, brilliant ! Secondly your usual flair for design shows through and thirdly for the neatness with the design !
Stunning work sir ! |

Cheers Ian / Mr Coleman
![]() Water based paints are the future - I know what you mean Ian re the love hate thing with them ! Initially I was swearing like a trooper. Thought I'd made a big mistake buying them - but gradually I got to grips with them. Jon sent me some of his and they are lovely. He sent me a red which sprays - lays well nice - definatley get some more of his paints when they are ready. First few coats are critical - very light and hair dryer until the paink keys to the shell. Is there an opaque createx or similar silver available ? |

Ya have to agree with the first couple of coats, infact I just try to use loads of light layers or as you say it lifts or you have to trace with a scalpel, just thought it would be interesting to find the views of someone who has changed over paints.
As for silver ,Jon stocks auto air aluminium base, think that will be what you want. |

Classy stuff fade king.
I just use Createx pearl silver . Although after backing, I find I need to give it a couple of hours or so before I start to lift the mask next to it, otherwise it lifts and I then begin the process of having a fit. |
