Look for it binding on the edge of the gearbox and/or do you have fredrik gear covers fitted with them as they dont fit ?

No I don't have fredrik gear covers, ill have to have a look to make sure there not binding somewhere. just to be sure can I use a front one way and a slipper clutch with this diff in the rear, if not I have a second one of these diffs

Have you got the belt tensioners in the right way. If you've got the diff positioned low the diff gear will probably be tight against the chassis. I also remember somebody else mentioning that the gear diff can also rub against the rear shock tower. I hope this helps.

what size hex fits the diff housing screws? I have tried 1.5mm which is too big and .050 which is too small....

It is 1.5mm but the hex is very shallow so it doesn't feel like it's taken hold very well.

I have hudy tools and the hex doesn't fit at all

Strange, I've got Hudy drivers and 1.5mm fits.

I had to grid the tip to get it to fit... what fluids would you run on outdoor dirt med grip?

yeh I had to use an older well used 1.5mm tip, as my newer ones were too big oddly enough......

I run my diff in a DB-01 which is a fair bit heavier than a 501/511.

I've been using 7k CST oil in the front and 3k CST oil in the rear and this suits my driving style.

Anyone else have gear diff feedback for a 511?

After much hesitation, I will purchase and build one soon.

I say one, so is anyone running a gear diff in the rear only (with ball diff up front)?

I am running a gear diff in the rear and a ball diff in the front of my 511. It seems to be the perfect combo for me because I like to run my rear diff loose and my front diff tight. Having a gear diff in the back means I only have to rebuild one diff instead of two, and I can adjust my front diff as tight as I want to by using a ball diff. I get to have my cake and eat it too. Its a stellar setup and I highly reccomend it.

Front ball diffs last so long though!

Actually, you're right, ball diffs do last longer in the front.

Lee would run the gear diff in the back and the ball in the front as I do, except the plastic bevel gears are getting chewed up in the rear with the hot motor he's running. He also has to put a ridiculously heavy oil in the front diff to keep it running "tight."

Once the steel bevel gears come out, watch him switch his front and rear diffs.
