The car looks great.

I especially like the belt tensioner, very neat and the attention to detail is amazing (looks a bit like the mountain bike chain tensioners of the 90's).

Now all I got to do is raid the piggybank.

My local Fabric shop don't have RIT dye. I just use a normal dye. Any dye would work. Delrin absorbs water if it is higher than 60°C. Boil some water put your dye and rim in and take them out every 1 min after its been in the dye water for 5 minutes until to its to your liking.

Has anybody notice that with the 2.2" rims, the bumper isn't reaching out enough to absorb any hits?

For example, if the lazer crashed on a brick wall dead on, the wheels will come in contact with the wall first.

Seeing this, and since I am going to get on to the bumper soon, should I make one that is longer? Or does everybody just want the bumper for decoration?

I agree with Moth, leave it as it is. However if you do feel the need to change the design I thought up a nice looking design twelve years ago.

In reality you almost never hit a wall like that. I believe it's much more common to hit a wall from an angle so the bumper does not help much. The smaller bumpers are only there to protect the chassis.

Older cars had bigger bumpers to protect even more but those bumpers were ditched from the racing models because they caused more trouble (interfering with other cars) than they helped on the track.

You probably knew all this

Cheers

I agree angles are the issue however I did hit a wall flat out in Jan this year and wasnt going slow. I didnt break anything other than the top deck and chassis, everything else is still being used and in perfect working order.

Still I do think the original is fine but the deisgn I have in my head is fractionally longer so should protect the car if going sideways into say a track marker at speed.

Oosh which rear hubs and axles/driveshafts are you running on your lazer?

Also what diameter are the threads on the battery posts where they poke through the straps, and are they the right height to use with NiCd batteries?

Thanks

Sorry, I don't quote understand which part you are asking. but I will try my best to answer.

Universal shafts are:
Front: LA-232
Rear: LA-245 with LA-231-02 shaft

Hex wheel holder are:
VZW-010

Rear Hub:
3Racing Lazer ZX-5 Rear Hub V2

Driveshaft (Layshaft?):
I designed myself (no part number)

Battery post thread is M4. It did come with spacers that I didn't use, I am guessing those are for NI-Cd.

Ive got the same, but preferred using two towers on the rear and the other tower design on the front but the 2.5 version.
