Hi there, I've been using the below as a ballpark gearing guide for my cougar:
http://www.teamnovak.com/tech_info/b...r_gearing.html With a 10.5t motor that would mean a 26t pinion with your 80t spur to give a FDR of 8.0 if you haven't changed the internal gearing from standard. I'm no genius though so I'm sure someone has a better suggestion

Cheers but I was told that if you have a smaller pion you will have more top end but Iam no expert .

the advice given is correct. 26-27 tooth is a good starting point and will give more top speed

Whenever I've ran a 10.5 I usually ran 78/27. Considering half your track is dirt I would consider a smaller spur like a 76 and a 26 pinion.
This will move the motor back slightly and help give a little more weight to the rear to aid traction.

I run with a 7.5t motor, schulze esc, standard cougar internal gearing and a 26/80 ratio on astro at Southport. I'm slightly down on top speed but still have plenty of torque left at mid throttle.
I suggest a 26 or 27 pinion to start with. does any one have the calculations for FDR on a cougar |

Try the FDR calculator at the bottom of this page:
http://driftmission.com/tools/ Countersteer Ratio/Final Drive Ratio is your internal gearbox ratio which as standard is I believe 2.6 If you've got an Android phone I use a free app called Gears from Nor-cal Hobbies, there are loads kicking about though... PS - If you're down on top speed I found the biggest difference was changing/updating ESC software as you're geared high anyway

bit of stupid moment really... I knew the internal was 2.6 and i knew my external ratio, not entirely sure why i didn't do the rest really..
![]() I thought 8 FDR was about right, its probably the motor not being a real 7.5t (ebay special) its coming off warm ish so I may go up a little further see what happens. |

Due to customer demand from around the globe, we have again increased the range of spurs we produce for the Schumacher Cat SX & Cougar SV. Just added to the current range of 78T thru 83T are the following, 72T 74T 76T Posted by RW Racing at 03:07 1 comment:
