I’ve had a right stroke of luck and have been lent a truly mint condition (as built almost) Optima Mid. It’s so utterly factory and mint I’m scared to use it!

It’s my mates who said it was his pride and joy and it’s been in the loft for nearly 15 years he thinks. I can’t decide what to do though. It’s got a Parma pro stock motor which with charging the original saft batteries was not much more than walking pace fast. I wonder if just newer cells will sort that? I’ve got a stick pack of cheap cells on order to run in this and to utterly abuse as my pack of cells for vintage this winter. Will it take a 19t motor and half decent cells OK belts wise, they are old remember?

The Optima has the original Kyosho mechanical speed control which has a reaction time of about 2 seconds with the std acoms servo on it, so I was going to try to put an electronic speedo in there as well as not to disturb the original wiring, trouble is the only spare speedo I have is a Tekin G11 which isn’t very small.

I’ll get some pics up tonight!

Dan

Tim, why don't you have a go at racing - while we will each be trying to win it's not (or at least it was not last year) the main objective, having a good laugh is.

Good point about the venue - is it Lowfield or Huntington?

Tim, follow this link - http://www.yorcc.org.uk/index_files/map.htm, both venues are on there - someone (G?) will let you know on here which venue it is.

Very nice indeed, I have a Tekin 410 but sadly it no longer works. G and s are right, you should come race at the next vintage meeting, 3rd November I think.

Or I have a Kyosho Optima

A Tomy intruder Adonis but sadly only a TC shell as yet
A Kyosho Super Bomber but needs lots of work
A Kyosho Aerostreak
A lazer ZX and a ZXR
A Marui Ninja
top of my head thats the old ones lol

It's 1990 or earlier chassis'd cars so the Blade 2000 is very much out. The optima is very much in though, I'm running the mid version at the vintage rounds (if the cells last 5 mins)

Sorry to jump in on this thread but I've been right through it and unless I've missed something I'm a bit unclear on the requirements for a vehicle to qualify as vintage, has this been clarified yet I have a couple of older cars and I'm interested to know which ones maybe acceptable, thanks

Hi Ferretti,

We class vintage as chassis's of pre 1990 vintage

I hope you can take part. I still haven't built the secret weapon

Pre 1990 I know it's meant to be fun and sorry to seek clarification but aren't some of you chaps running stealth transmissions I ask as I don't want to turn up with something that doesn't adhere to the rules.

To make it simple we have allowed variants of cars that were originally released pre-1990, so a late model RC10 may be actually later than 1990, but for our purpose its just an RC10 so is allowed.

It's really down to the individual racer what they want to run, if they think what they have fits the pre-1990 thing, then thats OK. Obviously anyone who decides to run something that is obviously later than 1990, eg a B2 or maybe a 'modern' CAT will look a bit silly.
